| 1) Message boards : Number crunching : When Will LHC Server Be Updated to Handle BOINC 5.1.*?
Message 10543 Posted 1 Oct 2005 by BarkerJr |
<blockquote>and many will switch</blockquote> Many have already switched, as evidenced by the multitude of threads started about this one topic. |
| 2) Message boards : Number crunching : Linux slower than Windows
Message 10292 Posted 19 Sep 2005 by BarkerJr |
It could also be because Linux is 64-bit, while Windows is, most likely, 32-bit. Bigger is not better if the LHC Linux client is optimized for 32-bit (it'd have to use emulation). |
| 3) Message boards : Number crunching : Funny time for work unit
Message 9985 Posted 7 Sep 2005 by BarkerJr |
Hehe, but you get zero credit for it :) |
| 4) Message boards : Number crunching : Further analysis to be done??
Message 9954 Posted 6 Sep 2005 by BarkerJr |
BOINC will retry every day or so... Sign up for a secondary project in the meantime. |
| 5) Message boards : Number crunching : BOINC Development Version Not Working
Message 9910 Posted 4 Sep 2005 by BarkerJr |
It's not I who wants to run LHC@Home, it's CERN that wants me to run it. If they don't want me to run it for the time being, that's fine by me. BOINC will retry every few days to check to see if they value my contributions. The great thing about BOINC is that it'll run other projects in the meantime. |
| 6) Message boards : Number crunching : New Version of Boinc
Message 9909 Posted 4 Sep 2005 by BarkerJr |
Wrong. It works with SETI and Einstein, which I assume both still work with 4.x clients. So, it seems that 5.x server is compatible with 4.x clients. |

Message 9866 Posted 2 Sep 2005 by BarkerJr |
The LHC Schedulers are refusing to let me download new work units. 9/2/2005 4:58:51 PM|LHC@home|Message from server: Need major version 4 of the BOINC core client. You have 5. |
| 8) Message boards : Number crunching : New server stuff
Message 3883 Posted 16 Oct 2004 by BarkerJr |
Do all of these PHP connections use persistant connections? If not, why not? |
| 9) Message boards : Number crunching : LHC has Setiates ... !!!
Message 3882 Posted 16 Oct 2004 by BarkerJr |
> however seti is working fine now SETI@home - 2004-10-16 10:20:11 - No schedulers responded |
| 10) Message boards : Number crunching : @ADMIN-daily quota system-how does it work?
Message 3841 Posted 15 Oct 2004 by BarkerJr |
You're assuming the server clock is correct :) |
| 11) Message boards : Number crunching : BOINC client 4.12 is released
Message 3780 Posted 14 Oct 2004 by BarkerJr |
4.13 is on the official SETI download page, now. On that note, I ran 4.12 for 22 hours on XPsp2 and it ran fine. |
| 12) Message boards : Number crunching : Hooray for the new workunits
Message 3742 Posted 13 Oct 2004 by BarkerJr |
Worse, many are failing to download. I'm seeing the same issues in SETI. |
| 13) Message boards : Number crunching : Confirmed.. message board is wonky.
Message 3665 Posted 12 Oct 2004 by BarkerJr |
I think that just means it's overloaded. |
| 14) Message boards : Number crunching : Is there actually going to be some work?
Message 3465 Posted 10 Oct 2004 by BarkerJr |
By the way, if you had read the LHC@home description (last paragraph) before posting here, you'd know that there isn't always going to to be a constant stream of work. That's the beauty of BOINC. You can join many projects that run when the other projects don't have any work. |

Message 3284 Posted 6 Oct 2004 by BarkerJr |
That's a good thing! |
| 16) Message boards : Number crunching : How long to wait before work is available?
Message 3258 Posted 6 Oct 2004 by BarkerJr |
> Its not a good idea to give one project 99.99% and another 00.01% as BOINC > will normally make sure it has at least 1 WU for each project, and the one > with 00.01% share will probably expire before you finish it, holding up the > project and preventing the other people given that WU from getting credit > until its sent out again and someone else processes it. That is only true if the primary project does not have a lot of "out of work" time. This project explicitly states that the goal is to run out of work units as fast as possible. So, I would assume that there would be work units for a few days and then wait a week till the next set of work units. |

> No matter how you tweak the sharing %, it will stop work on one project to > work on the other for a while. > > I want it to work on one project 100% of the time, UNLESS it's out of work or > otherwise indisposed, then drop to a backup project. Well, you can get it to be 99% :) |
| 18) Message boards : Number crunching : sience crunching or credits crunching ,what you like ?
Message 3031 Posted 1 Oct 2004 by BarkerJr |
> > BOINC forums need lots of work before they become as good as phpBB. > > Offtopic (sorry Guido): > What exactly do you miss? "need lots of work" is a bit vague =) Sorry, really I guess the main thing making read vs. unread threads look different. It wouldn't have to be that major, just a cookie and a session that records that last time you visited. |

Message 2981 Posted 1 Oct 2004 by BarkerJr |
I do it for the science and the community (these forums). On that note, BOINC forums need lots of work before they become as good as phpBB. |
| 20) Message boards : Number crunching : @admin more wu s need
Message 2928 Posted 30 Sep 2004 by BarkerJr |
According to this page: http://athome.web.cern.ch/athome/LHCathome/whatis.html Sixtrack work units are produced when there is a change to the LHC, not constantly. The point is to have the work units depleted as quick as possible. Of course, this means that you should enroll in at least one additional BOINC project. |
