With only two tasks remaining, my machines ran dry a bit earlier than wanted, but I was going to switch to another project tonight anyway.

My one machine sat with 12 idle cores for 14 hours while the others did Theory.
Trying to shape bandwidth usage with QoS (no success) or hard bandwidth limits on each machines' NIC to allow some free bandwidth for private usage, and give up on Sixtrack.

Almost switched to another project tonight but those projects' science just aren't as important to me.

EDIT: A bunch of Sixtrack came down to all my machines 30-50 minutes ago.
Here's hoping it holds.

That error seems to indicate that the extension pack isn't installed.
Did you install the matching Virtual Box Extensions pack for your current version of VBox?
https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

It could be though that the CPU Virtualization features are not turned on in your computer BIOS though.
Check the BIOS advanced features.

It should scale but is something we could look at reducing. The test should now try three times before failing. Let's see if that helps.

If there is any way to reduce traffic, such as storing redundancies locally, streamlining the size of each packet, using more compression, etc it would be appreciated.

Currently I have a typical ~300kb bandwidth remaining of a 25,000kb ISP internet plan as the Theory WU's crunch.

The next step up data plan would more than double my monthly ISP service fees.

Thankyou for pushing this news to the clients.

In my experience, very few users running BOINC will come to the message boards to read the news so using the client notifications is a very nice way to keep everyone up to date.

Back last June, we were in a similar situation, and the feeder and scheduler parameters were re-tuned, increasing the scheduler shared memory buffer and feeder query size; the SixTrack priority was increased as well, to avoid that the scheduler buffer runs out of SixTrack tasks. The feeder and scheduler parameters cannot be tune-up further, as they are already at the limit of the server capabilities. On the other hand, we will warn the users to be more cautious in submitting new work.

For example, a smaller max_wus_to_send

With that in mind I tried setting up 'school' preferences asking for 1 core, 1 task, Sixtrack only and have tried manually updating for an hour on my old Dell laptop and can't secure even a single WU.

Was hoping that a new Data directory for Sixtrack only requests could solve the issue but this experiment would had to work,

Got 4 Sixtrack to d/l today...

When I manually update the feeder will send down 1 Sixtrack and 16+ Theory.

Is VB required for all of the apps other than Six Track?

Thanks,

Sixtrack and Sixtracktest are the only non-VB WU's.

Even when I make Sixtrack the only WU option, the feeder won't send my machines any Sixtrack.

Is it because there are no Windows apps in the queue or some other reason?

I did have my pref's set at unlimited ... so I set them to the limit of 8 and still got 8 tasks on each one

When I was playing around trying to get a mix of 3 different WU (ATLAS/ Theory, Sixtrack) the unlimited vs 24 changed the behavior of the work distribution.

I've gotten no Sixtrack on the 3 machines that are set for a mix since my initial post.

Trying to set maximum 24 instead of unlimited and will see if there is a change.

EDIT: Looks like the 24 limit is truncated to 8 now.
That's not enough work to fill the cores.
Owell.
Just focus on Theory and ATLAS and let Sixtrack go until the feeder issue is resolved.

Although about 770.000 "unsent" tasks are shown on the Project Status Page, I have been unsuccessfully trying to download tasks for hours now.
It always says "No tasks are available for Sixtrack" :-(

Will this problem ever be solved?

OK, so it's not just me. Good to know.

All the Theory WU's use so much internet bandwidth that I can't even watch a video.

I knew there were no Sixtrack coming down because I couldn't watch Democracy Now! this morning.

Credit is not what matters to the pools with 500 machines.

Magnitude is what matters, which is the percentage of credit received compared to the other users.

There is nothing wrong with getting paid for your labor, even if it's labor of your silicon machines.

If it weren't for the crypto currency I received over the last two years; I would be homeless.
Literally, the police would have tried to evict me from my paid-for house this year for failure to pay property taxes.
My fixed income can't meet the needs even though the hot water is turned off, the house is uninsured, I have no life insurance, no health insurance, no car, and get food stamps.

This crypto currency is based on actual science done and not on wasted electricity endlessly trying to decrypt a new BtC or Eth block.

Using electricity to heat the globe just to generate currency is not going to reduce global warming.
Currency has to be provided for actual work done whether it's BOINC projects, producing content for social media or auditing national elections with blockchain clients.

There is no country with guaranteed basic income, TMK, and AI/automation is on an exponential growth rate while human population is also soaring, so
getting paid to manage computing that produces actual science is one means of survival.

Aborting the upload and then clicking update for the project would clear the upload slot and lead to a a successful upload on other projects where a server glitch or maintenance cycle happened, but here the WU gets a failed upload error and is wasted.

Can't this be prevented as the data set is completed and safely on the client drives?
Why should a successfully completed data set be lost (4 entire CPU days per each WU on my machines) because the upload slot was cleared and retried at a later time?

Each SingeCore-Atlas-Task needs 2,1 GB free RAM,

This isn't supported any more. 80% of the WU's ended up Invalid when set to 2100. All of the 1 core WU's attempted at 2560 MB succeeded but returned about 0.002 credit per CPU second or 1/5 the credit for those at 3420 MB.

The BOINC manager properties reports either 3.42 GB (for any WU sized 1 to 5 cores) or 9.57 GB (6 to 8 cores) Work space.

That solves to 2540 MB + (880 MB * ncores).
