From time to time the server is very closefisted. More than half a million of sixtrack WUs, but not giving them away.

As off now there are 336,450 WUs of SixTrack supposed to be ready to be sent out, but my machines don't get any of them.

Addendum: Now I am flooded with WUs :)

I also had such a monster:

Spending 110 hours (more ) on it and only getting 190.57 Credits.
Thats not fair ;(

Igor, is the error with the SSE3 WUs now removed.
See below that it effects mainly SSE3 WUs:

Thats just one example of the error I get from my machines.
I checked computers of other users and its the same. The only difference is the time after the error kicks in. Seems like it scales to the computer.
The question is, why is there a time limit? REMOVE IT!! Please
The crunching from hours (in case of my main machine 5 hours) gets wasted, without receiving any credit for that WU.
I think I will delete all LHC WUs that now and check later, when the time limit gets removed.

P.S.: After looking through several computers task I got the impression that this happens mainly to SSE3 tasks, some PNI, no SSE2 seen so far.

I support everybody demanding the cancellation of the amount of credit granted to those users!!
Most of us struggle hard to get some of the rare Work-unit so it takes weeks to get some thousand of credits.

Seems like they don't have much trust in the stability of their WUs.

But there is also this error:

Would the Earths own magnetic field have any bearing on the results. In so far as affecting the accelerated particles ?

My reasoning behind these questions is would the experiments be more effective if conducted off of the planet ?

The magnetic field of the earth, donĀ“t affect the experiment. The detectors use a magnetic field for impulse measurement, but it is orders of magnitude stronger.

At least two of the detectors have taken data already:
ALiCE
CMS

(admittedly not from collisions yet...)

Yes, almost every detector use cosmics for calibration. So even there is no beam you can test and check the detector. But there are some restrictions: cosmics mainly come down vertical, so you wont have tracks horizontal. The energy deposition is not much, it may be under threshold of some detector devices.

this link leads to the current schedule
http://sylvainw.home.cern.ch/sylvainw/planning-follow-up/Schedule.pdf
as u can see the first 7 TeV beam should be available mid may
the real question is, when will the detectors start to take data.

p.s.: everything is preliminary and CERN sustained some throwbacks in the last years.
