So it's not really crashing your computer, but making the system unresponsive because it's using all the CPU cycles?

Have you tried not running the screensaver?

If you want to see the change right away even though the server is down, you can change it manually.

-Shut down the client.
-Backup your account.xml for LHC in case you make a mistake.
-Open the account .xml in a text editor, and change the resource share number.
-Save the changes and exit the .xml file.
-Restart BOINC, and you will now see the new resource share.

Wow, you must be proud of that one. This is the second forum I've seen it on. Is it over at S@H as well? ;)

48) Questions and Answers : Sixtrack : Move WU between PCs (Message 3537)
Posted 11 Oct 2004 by Heffed
Post:
BOINC keeps track of what machine WUs are delivered to. If another PC returns a result that it didn't download, the result will be rejected.

This is an anti cheating feature.

They do know why...

They (Predictor) ordered a brand new release that apparently wasn't quite ready for production just yet. And last I heard, Dell was waiting on the 2GB RAM modules to populate the server with.

It goes back a lot further than that.

And the option to block said avatars. :)

53) Questions and Answers : Sixtrack : It's still beta? (Message 3167)

BOINC is the controller. It has nothing to do with LHC. LHC saying they are no longer beta has no bearing on BOINCs status.

Didn't I read that SNAP is donating the hardware for the actual accelerator? ;)

Seriously though, I think a lot of the current load is these "chaotic" WUs they are currently testing. You can get a dozen of these bad boys and be done and asking for more in a minute.

Multiply by 5000+ users and that can't help matters any...

Resetting during beta is a very common occurance. Deal with it...

58) Questions and Answers : Wish list : Add Dialup Preference to Restrict Connection Times to BOINC (Message 2742)

Dialup concerns are very low priority to the BOINC dev team. :(

Hopefully all the dialup issues will be straightened out soon.

Are you on dial up?

It sounds like the lockup the 4.xx clients experience when it tries to contact the servers and you are offline.

It doesn't usually take a full restart though. Just exit and restart the client.
