The servers will always be backwards compatible, but the project can set a low end cutoff for old clients.
2) Message boards : Number crunching : Resigning due to short deadlines (Message 9877)

Not every project is going to be perfect for everyone. The project developers are the only people who can determine what project settings meet their needs. If you can't run a project due to short deadlines, I'm sure that's a risk they've factored in to their reasoning. A shorter deadline definitely rules out some machines, but if the machines are more a hindrance to the expected progress than a help, then I would expect them to do what they've done. To call them greedy or say they're trying to take over your machines is just stupid...

LHC has the nicest looking screen saver of all the BOINC projects. It's unfortunate if you can't see it. :(

Do you have one?

If I've ever had one go over the revised estimate, it jumps to exactly the amount of time it took the longer WU.

No, of course not. Only those that buy into your diatribe. ;)

HeHe... Sounds a lot like you keep saying it's crap. *g* I particularly liked this bit...

"I'm not saying that Zone Alarm is a bad software at all, but I know from my experience that by avoiding this piece of software one also avoid running into trouble eventually."

Not quite sure how the gist of this statement could be misinterpreted...

All I'm saying is that I know from my experience that ZA runs flawlessly. How come if I state my experiences, I'm labeled cynical?

Believe it or not, I've been running ZoneAlarm for years with absolutely no issues whatsoever. Also interesting that ZA always rates so high in product comparisons...

They shouldn't be. This is an elusive BOINC issue that crops up from time to time. The only harm done should be slower processing due to the science apps fighting for CPU cycles.

It's having trouble with special characters. Peque?o is probably pequeño, which means small.

I'm having no problems with 4.70.

Yes, this is the type of thing you should see.

I'm not so sure I'd call the borders fat. I don't find them distracting at all.

Also, I think you're over-riding the default font color for the page. I see black text on the page. I find it easy to read.

18) Questions and Answers : Windows : running 2 different projects on dual processors (hyperthreaded) (Message 8524)
Posted 14 Jul 2005 by Heffed
Post:
It all depends on debt values. At times you will see different projects running at the same time, but there is no way to specify which project runs on which CPU.
19) Questions and Answers : Windows : Time to completion always about 14 hours before workunit start (Message 8387)
Posted 10 Jul 2005 by Heffed
Post:
The newer versions of the CC currently in alpha testing are working to help out with this issue.

The estimated time to completion becomes closer to the actual processing time as you process WUs. If your actual completion time is lower than the estimate, the estimate gradually lowers. It lowers slowly, in case of fluke WUs like noisy WUs from S@H.

This feature will be somewhat less effective with LHC WUs, due to the variable sizes sent out. Your estimated time will most likely always hover around the completion times of the longest WUs, because the value raises rapidly if you get a longer running WU.

Sounds like it's fighting with cool&quiet. It appears as though at the 'standard' LHC thread priority, cool&quiet is throttling it down. (competing priorities) When you boost LHC's priority, it's no longer 'idle' priority, and cool&quiet gets out of the way.
