| 1) Message boards : Number crunching : the Problem with Boinc
Message 9519 Posted 21 Aug 2005 by verstapp
|
You can attach to another project so as to do meaningful work while there is no work from LHC. One of the reasons BOINC was invented was to make it easy to switch between projects when one is down for whatever reason. |

@Mahray Its what you get for living in a 3rd world banana republic. :) verstapp, Canberra. |

Santa, send me a WU. Pleeeze! PeterV. |
| 5) Message boards : Number crunching : Just got a new unit???
Message 5358 Posted 30 Nov 2004 by verstapp

I had a unit once, but it was so long ago that I forget what it felt like. PeterV. |
| 6) Message boards : Cafe LHC : what do you think about my new webpage

>I've seen 404 Not found errors more interesting I got a 404 on Guido's URL!. PeterV. |
| 7) Questions and Answers : Windows : Server can't open database
Message 4906 Posted 5 Nov 2004 by verstapp
|
This is a server problem - its overloaded with work at the moment and can't respond to your request. This happens quite often on LHC, and that's when the server is UP (its often down). Don't worry about it, it'll recover eventually. I often find that the server, having been offline for a day or so, suddenly comes good about 9am Swiss time, when someone arrives at work, sees a problem, and reboots it. PeterV. |

You need to have a Talking Head to be a final front ear. :) PeterV. |
| 9) Message boards : LHC@home Science : Does 'protwelve' WU refer to tuning of magnet twelve?
Message 4643 Posted 30 Oct 2004 by verstapp
|
A tutorial on what we're actually doing here would be welcome - if such already exists then please include a URL with your flames - for all I know we could be trying to guess Bill Gates' M/C #. Part of the tutorial should include an explanation of WU names, ie the difference between *proseven*...*protwelve*. I already know that the difference between the *pro* and the *tunescan* is that the pros only do 10,000 circuits and the *tunescan*s do 1,000,000 but more detail would be welcome. PeterV. |
| 10) Message boards : Number crunching : Each WU Sent 4 Times?
Message 4033 Posted 21 Oct 2004 by verstapp

>sig Well I don't have to scroll my screen horizontally in order to see it all so its OK by me. PeterV. |
| 11) Message boards : Number crunching : What is the difference between proeight/pronine/protwelve WUs?
Message 3982 Posted 19 Oct 2004 by verstapp
|
They seem to run/crash in the same time as each other - the only difference appears to be in the name. PeterV. |
| 12) Message boards : Number crunching : Boinc 4.13 released...
Message 3800 Posted 14 Oct 2004 by verstapp

>every day -patch day Sounds like XP. :) I skipped 4.12 and went straight to 4.13, which is working OK so far. PeterV. |

Message 3304 Posted 7 Oct 2004 by verstapp

Thanks, thor. EDIT: Is there some kind of sign-in procedure? All I got was a box with headings, no stats. EDIT II: Thanks again. It helps if I use the right img src. PeterV. |

Hi MikeW, Where'd you get your all-in-one cross-project boincstats graphic? TIA. PeterV. |
| 16) Message boards : Number crunching : How long to wait before work is available?
Message 3270 Posted 6 Oct 2004 by verstapp
|
More confusing - it now says Up, low on work (low on work != out of work) ?? So, is this an improvement or not? I haven't received any new WUs yet. PeterV. |
| 17) Message boards : Number crunching : Shortrunning workunits - Please read
Message 3201 Posted 4 Oct 2004 by verstapp

This all assumes that there are actually some WUs available to download. :-) Keep up the good work, Markku. PeterV. |
| 18) Message boards : Number crunching : weird stats of a computer
Message 3187 Posted 4 Oct 2004 by verstapp
|
I am *guessing* that the stats are considerably screwed up due to the database problems. And also due to the lack of work - only my slowest PC is crunching LHC data at the moment, the other 3 have finished their LHC WUs and switched back to CPDN due to a lack of LHC work to do. PeterV. |

| 20) Message boards : Number crunching : sience crunching or credits crunching ,what you like ?
Message 3092 Posted 2 Oct 2004 by verstapp

In other words, Barker, you want a 'classic' CPDN board. I prefer it too, though I am willing to put up with BOINC-style boards for non-CPDN projects. PeterV. |
