The name of the project in the Projects tab has changed from lhcathome to lhcathometest. Here is an excerpt from the messages:

Are we realyy supposed to detach and reattach to http://lhcathometest.cern.ch/lhcathometest/ or is this a temporary quirk?

Yes, just keep trying... I just got one even it says on the home page that there's no work.

Adrian,

Do you know which project(s) will require 4.4x?

You could always revert to 4.25 after which all the things you are complaining about have been introduced... I haven't upgraded my CC after I read all the stuff about 4.3x and 4.4x clients, and I'm quite happy and content with what I've got. I can suspend and resume projects and individual WUs, and with the help of BoincView (which is faaar better then the vanilla Boinc Manager IMHO!) I have the option not to request work for a particular project. AND the client scheduler doesn't get in the way with the way you work. This is all you need to run your "self scheduler" if you know what you are doing.

It seems that I will stick with 4.25 for a loooong time to come...

Well, I'm sure there are many new features which are beneficial to us and the project people, but I like it that my credits are updated even if there is no work. :-)

Yes, I know that, but that will affect my other projects, too. I found my resource shares and cache settings after a lot of experimenting. They are perfect for me for the time being in that I can finish my WUs before deadlines AND my results are mostly included in the quorums (I don't feel I'm contributing to science if they are not!)

I don't want to change this, and besides other projects take my resource shares into account and don't fill my cache with 1 day of WUs each. I just want to learn why L@H is not behaving like other projects do.

This may sound a little bit weird as some of you guys are dying to have your daily quotas increased, but I'm simply downloading too many workunits. Let me explain:

My cache is set to 1 day, and completion time is estimated to be 1h20m. I'm downloading 18 WUs at a time, so that makes exactly 1 day of work. But I have 4 other projects running, and L@H's resource share is 10%, so I should really be downloading 2-3 WUs at most at a time. It used to be like this in October and November before the looooong silence.

So is this recent influx of WUs a rush to send out as many WUs as possible to test something so that resource shares and client uptimes aren't taken into account? Ot is this a bug in the scheduler?

No, unfortunately they don't. I know for sure that I didn't download them.

Thanks anyway for the suggestion...

12) Message boards : Number crunching : More WUs on my results page than in my cache (Message 7496)

Post:
I managed to download a bunch of WUs during the recent unstable period. I have 18 WUs in my cache, but my results page shows many more than that. It seems that some WUs were allocated to me, but because of the "unstability" the connection between the database and scheduler was lost at some point, and I ended up not downloading them. Is this a wise assumption? If yes, at what point exactly could things have gone awry?

That had happened to me with Einstein once. I went through the logs, and found one L@H scheduler request without a reply. That must have been the indication that something was wrong, because I had seen a similar Einstein scheduler request without a reply when that happened with Einstein.

So I decided not to request work from any project once I realize that there is a database problem. I hope science will be OK for those missing WUs and credits will be granted in time, because I know for sure that I'm not crunching them...

Mee too... So there is no need to reset, you will eventually get 4.66.

I can wait till my WUs are finished. They are long ones, and I always got credit for them. LHC@home WUs are a rare commodity, I just don't feel like wasting them! :-)

I got two, but without the new client... It is stated on the home page that 4.66 is ready, so why aren't we downloading it? I thought it was the new client we were waiting for.

Maybe it's due to this:

1.4.2005 10:20 UTC
We are setting up the alpha project on the new server, to test out new clients. Hopefully this will not impact the server too much but some irregularities may occur.

Nevertheless, they should have let us know. Bad news is better than being left in the dark with no news at all...

I just got 2 v64boince6 WUs without a new client. It seems that they decided to give out some more work before upgrading the client.
