2) Message boards : LHC@home Science : Fehler beim upload/download (Message 26882)

Post:

The error lies on the Server side. It seems that the logfile ran out of space, or the write privileges have been changed, and LHC/BOINC can't open the logfile on the server and write in it.
I hope the sysadmins see this soon and fix the problem.

Project status claims to be OK (Running) on all levels, but still no upload. I guess in a few hours, when they open the doors at CERN and start their daily routines, they will see it and fix it. (it's 5:30 there, so it shouldn't take much longer...)

Post:
According to Symmetry Magazine, and dated 16th Feb. 2009, “LHC repairs almost complete”
Engineers at CERN are installing the last component necessary to fix the Large Hadron Collider, LHC production manager Lyn Evans said at the AAAS conference in Chicago.

In about a month, they will begin the process of cooling the accelerator’s eight sectors, one by one. And by late September, “we’ll be ready to be back where we were last September,” Evans said.

The LHC saw first beams in September 2008, but shortly afterward a flaw in one of its electrical components brought the accelerator to a halt.

I’ve been wondering if the heat caused by an unexpected collision (of two or more stray protons) could have caused the “meltdown” of the wiring in the magnet :)

could someone summarise, in non-tecchie language, whether it is ok to upgrade to boinc 6.4.x now. I am still using 5.10.x and put off moving to v.6 on hearing of the problems. however my other projects, such as cpdn, have problems with the graphics screensaver if NOT using v.6 so I am getting restless without seeing clear guidance. Guess which projects have continuous work!! /pg

Hi glaesum,

non techie here... :)
After a long wait I upgraded to 6.2.19 and now to 6.4.5 and everything seems to be running peachy smoothly.

Starting BOINC client version 6.4.5 for windows_intelx86

Processor: 2 AuthenticAMD AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ [x86 Family 15 Model 107 Stepping 2]

running on Vista.

It\'s because of the screensaver graphics so we are working on rolling out a new version of SiXTrack sans graphics ASAP and eventually finding a replacement package.

I swear this project is going to be more professional very soon, Alex and I are trying to implement a system around BOINC regarding job submission, application updates, server upgrades, knowledge base etc etc that was not in place and so needs to be almost reverse engineered into place, this means it is quiet on the outside but moving along in the background similar to the server upgrade (another coming soon) and the deletion of as many duplicate hosts as we could do safely.

We have been reading the boards whenever we get 5 minutes but I have been uber-snowed under with work nonsense so have not been replying (sorry) but I can say that Alex has been out at CERN this week so hopefully more great news to follow if not look out for a murder in the east end of London next week although that wouldn\\\'t be very rare.

Thanks for sticking with us folks especially Dagorath who I have only contemplated killing on one or two occasions ;-)

BTW, are the single and double quotes in the forum posts and replies eventually going to be stripped of their preceding backslash(es) \', \", \\\', \\\", \\\\\\\', \\\\\\\", \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\', \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"?
It is somewhat annoying (very much so)
8) Message boards : LHC@home Science : any news about SixTrack and boinc 6.X? (Message 20683)

I would like to upgrade to the latest boinc client, but would also like to return valid SixTrack results.
What can I do to help?

According to a CERN specialist, LHC has already destroyed earth. On the future.

Here's a webcam you can use to keep tabs on the LHC experiments. Not much usually happening but you never know.

it looks a bit worse :(
from the homepage:

|LHC@Home database is having bad performance. We should get another
|server soon and get things running better.

when I went to the homepage earlier, on the server status "box" there were two (overload?) messages as MySQL or PHP (can't remember which and can't reproduce it right now :(
