This has nothing to do with GDPR as no PERSONAL information is distributed.

Absolutely....

GDPR is about PERSONAL information - not anonymised data, crunched by computers, which are only linked by an email address (which is hidden).

I think someone on this project is a bit over zealous about protecting user data....

In which case, I formally request to the admins of this project to anonymise and delete ALL information relating to any members PCs....as I can see what CPUs a member is using, how much RAM they have, their GPUs config, all sorts of stuff....

IMHO, the EU really are causing absolute mayhem for everyone....and wasting so much money every month MOVING all their offices to Strasbourg to hold 4 days of meetings and then moving it all back to Brussels for the rest of the month.

Hi all

re: "Do you consent to exporting your data to BOINC statistics aggregation Web sites?"

Presumably then, any non-active members who do not tick this box, their individual stats won't be exported anymore?

So, all the stats aggregation websites will only be showing active LHC members and so all non-active members contributions will no longer be included in each teams totals?

That is going to affect many teams rankings in both the project stats as well as the overall Team/Country stats?

Hi all

Thanks for the messages.

I didn't know that LHC was now using a https server...and I had assumed that even if it had, both old http and new https URLs would "point" to the same database.

I've now logged in on https server and all is well.

My "older" BOINC version is 7.6.22, so a few steps away from current.

I'll see about updating BOINC Manager to the current one ;-)

Anyone else have this issue?

When I go to this there's no "Edit preferences" link.

http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/prefs.php?subset=project

I can get to this page (as it's a common page on other projects) to edit them:

http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/prefs_edit.php?subset=project

But then there is no "Update preferences" box to save them

Anyone help with this?

Thanks John & Ric for the info.

As I see it there's no disadvantage to "detaching" from the LHC server - there's currently no work available and by detaching I simply stop my client from trying to connect to the LHC server.

So, all I need do, is wait until LHC goes live again sometime in 2005.

Just hope I can re-attach and merge any results from one host to the new one.

Tim

...detach from LHC project

(stange - the subject title got shortened...so had to add the rest of my question afterwards)

Subject says it all really - I've crunched some data for LHC, but as there's little (or no work) available now, I'm considering "detaching" from the project.

But what does this mean?

Do I lose the credits obtained previously?
Is my account then "dead"? (and will I have to re-apply and start a new account?)

Or does it just stop my BOINC client from "pinging" the LHC server for work?

regards and Happy Xmas

Tim

Hi,

The UK BOINC Team is a collection of UK based crunchers, using their CPU power to further the cause of various worthy projects.

The UK BOINC Team currently supports: LHC@home, SETI@home, Climate Prediction and Pirates@home.

We cannot promise you much, excepting that you'll be joining a group of people who are crunching away as best they can and who maybe, just maybe, can collectively be amongst the highest ranking teams from around the world.

regards,

Timbo
