41) Message boards : Number crunching : Workunits Coming Soon? (Message 10756)

<blockquote>Hi

How about a message on the front page to let us all know what is going on? Keep the crunchers happy and we may process work for the project.</blockquote>
I believe we have the message:

Server Status

Up, 3453 workunits to crunch
31435 workunits in progress
39 concurrent connections

I don't see where is the problem then.

There is a limit that is used. It is the daily quota which is per CPU and per day. This is a project depending number. For example here it is set at 100, for E@H it is set at 8.

The 'Requesting 0 seconds of work' comes from the long term debt that does not allow for the moment to download new WU's.

Give it a time and things will sort out automatically.

This Message means that the BOINC Client Software was not able to start a communication session with the Project because it was unable to obtain the most up-to-date copy of the Project's Master Page. The other Messages that accompany this message will contain the details of the specific cause of the failure.

This problem comes very probably from a misconfigured firewall or router.

The first major contract signed for the LHC is drawing to a close. Belgian firm Cockerill Sambre (a member of the Arcelor Group) has just completed production of 50,000 tonnes of steel sheets for the accelerator's superconducting magnet yokes, in what has proved to be an exemplary partnership with CERN.
............
The yokes constitute approximately 80% of the accelerator's weight and, if placed side by side, would stretch over 20 km !

Well, this is not a surprise.

LHC is known as being a project different from others. Sometime there is a lot of work, then there is no work at all.

I this case, it would be good if the server could determine there is a problem with these WU's and should not allow considering these WU's as WU's for LHC@home.

Click on the WU that is crunching for E@H. Use the "Show Graphics".

The screensaver should work if "Show graphics" works.

Not to worry about.

I did the same more then a year ago with S@H Beta.

It doesn't affect anything. It will just remain on the server as an unused account.

The new submission scripts caused some name mangling when jobs returned. Making it hard to figure out which result belonged to what job. This should be resolved now and the new scripts have been installed on the production server.
If no further complications arise we will launch the first study tomorrow. It will be about 30'000 1'000'000 turn jobs.

Well after all, 1 WU for Seti was sent back leaving only 1 WU for Seti over. At that moment, the manager downloaded 5 WU's for E@H. It seems to work but apparently the LT debt has to learn dealing with timings. That's the way I interpret it for the moment.

Update:
From JohnMcLeodVII
Yes, the positive debt for LHC is the culprit. Yes, it should take this into account, and a fix for this has been checked in

As LHC had a quite big positive LT debt on my host, this is messing up the downloads for other projects.

Greetings from Belgium.
