There is a plan to have BOINC server notify the client when a quorum is reached so it can abort the workunit.

wont that mean if your comp is to slow you wont get any credits if result isnt obtain before a quorom is reached ?

only if You grab to many wu :p

My machines do them 1 at a time when they are around, if they aren't available, they do something else. If I wanted to do more lhc, I'd buy another pc .I understand the scientists want the results back a.s.a.p.

the problem with limiting the #/day or concurrent is that someone always has good reason (this pc did 878 wanless wu yesterday) and if I was on dialup connecting once a week, or running a farm of 8 machines from 1 (using usb drive) those limits would be inadequate so it is up to the cruncher in the end, to be responsible, and if they are going to be irresponsible lets hope they dl 500 wu instead of drink & drive

I get this message from the LHC server:

03.01.2007 13:16:13|lhcathome|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user
03.01.2007 13:16:13|lhcathome|Requesting 16492 seconds of new work
03.01.2007 13:16:17|lhcathome|Scheduler RPC succeeded [server version 502]
03.01.2007 13:16:17|lhcathome|Message from server: No work sent
03.01.2007 13:16:17|lhcathome|Message from server: (there was work but you don't have enough disk space allocated)
03.01.2007 13:16:17|lhcathome|Message from server: No disk space (YOU must free 1737.3 MB before BOINC gets space). Review preferences for maximum disk space used.
03.01.2007 13:16:17|lhcathome|Deferring scheduler requests for 1 days, 0 hours, 0 minutes and 0 seconds

I have set this preferences:
Disk and memory usage
Use no more than 8 GB disk space
Leave at least
(Values smaller than 0.001 are ignored) 0.1 GB disk space free
Use no more than 80% of total disk space
Write to disk at most every 60 seconds
Use no more than 75% of total virtual memory

The free space on the disc is >21 GB and the only bigger thing is climate prediction with a usage of 2.44 GB.

Now what is the problem here?

I had the same problem with linux boinc 5.7.5 with 19 Gb free, set to use no more than all of it,leave less than none free, 100% 100% 100% .I ended up going back to windoze on that pc, which I definitely don't recommend ;)

Hi arogoli;
Welcome to lhc. sorry We are tired of that question around here, lol, it's been 121 days now that the stats feature has been offline at this project there are over 200 threads about this, and an appology/explaination on the main page and in the faq, the short story is lhs is/has moved to a new location and the new project masters have many other problems to deal with as well, besides learning everything BOINC , everything lhc and trying to live normal lives as well.
Lost of frustration in our fellow crunchers around here, sorry it got taken out on another 'newbie'.

yup they all died, so did every seti simap etc etc etc,
either because i spoke or because i opened the heat vent wu#2 'hung me' {it resumed ok} this wu is heading towards a 3 hour time tho so I was going to turf 30 or so ( wish I could send them to 1 of these other machines :) )

I don't believe a reset should be nesc. as the schedualar bumps up in one step the completion estimate

I did note that on this end completion estimate was ~1 hour before the first wu completed , now its 2:17

I sent back them wu's & I'll check it again when I get up.

13 seconds on a pc benching 878/1504 'optimistic'

p.s. These boards realy need a preview I always seem to need edit (im on the wrong machine this is firefox 1.x still and doesn't spellcheck like 2.x

:D Welcome Bill;

Very nice, it's good to see effort to stop those wasted cpu cycles and of course good to see any effort to educate .

My notes;

  • I'd point towards BOINC rather than the wcg client
  • I'd mention the huge educational value of the project decriptions for interesting {Me} anyways in biology chemestry physics all which are totaly new 'cince i was in school
  • The large # and variety of BOINC projects ( I do 38 atm ) means there are many interesting fields of science represented in 1 kit
  • Computers and the science behind d.c. are also a great educational opportunity
  • Up here in the 'great white north' we waste cpu cycles too, I would love to see 'our' educators enlightened also
  • Also of huge value the interaction with people and ideas from other languages we are exposed to i.e.

Anyways Thanks for Your efforts and I wish You the best of luck.

Hope You got some w.u. here today too. :D

dunno what happened here , never thought i'd be saying 'too much'.
My amd xp2100 linux machine requested 864 seconds of work and got 68 w.u..

lets see @ 2hrs ~ thats 126 /24 = 5 days

24 hours to spare, should be ok {as long as burp or pirates dont feed that p.c. too}

gotta love Alpha projects, lol, j.k..

I'm sure the fault is all in My pc, the old cruncher just trying to make me happy :D

This p.c. errored out all the LHC wu it recieved this summer { thats why its 'connect every is .01 days' }.
I either fixxed the 'hang' problem it had or it's running good because it's -25c

Could you post the workunit ID please?

i looked it up Work Unit Result

it appears the wu has vanished and orphaned the result
