When I open the VirtualBox GUI theren is no media, since it doesn't run under my account it runs under the boinc account.

I cannot su into boinc as there is no real account for boinc.

I did rm * on all the stuff in .config/VirtualBox, now its back after aborting all the tasks and rebooting.

How can I fix this?

Command:
VBoxManage -q closemedium "/var/lib/boinc-client/projects/lhcathome.cern.ch_lhcathome/CMS_2022_09_07_prod.vdi"
Output:
VBoxManage: error: Cannot close medium '/var/lib/boinc-client/projects/lhcathome.cern.ch_lhcathome/CMS_2022_09_07_prod.vdi' because it has 2 child media
VBoxManage: error: Details: code VBOX_E_OBJECT_IN_USE (0x80bb000c), component MediumWrap, interface IMedium, callee nsISupports
VBoxManage: error: Context: "Close()" at line 1878 of file VBoxManageDisk.cpp

I tiried to run the command manually and with sudo but they kept comming up, I try to rebot and see what happens.

If you set Max # jobs &/or Max # CPUs to anything other than No limt then it could be there is a cap.

Given how long the tasks take I'm not sure why you need such a buffer of work, I have 0.25 day of work and have 70 on my computer, 36 running and 34 buffer

Its was confimed in the presentation at BOINC 2023 conf, there will be a delay vs the CPU since there is some work to do, lots of work being done inside CERN uses GPU for XTrak

My total all time is 2% and last 30 d is also 2%.

My observation is though these stuck ones don't get any work so overtime you just end up doing no work as they all gave up trying to get work.

I just abort them, as discussed before, if you reboot the VM it can come back but once you have the error its time out getting a WU from the backend.

I does on LINUX also just not as much I would say.

I tested it out and it doesn't work as expected. Either the webpage is the wrong one or it never loads up.

I can use the screenshot function then OCR the picture to see what the console output but this is sub-optimal I would say.

There is some files in:

slots\n\boinc_WUName\Logs

they aren't the same as whats show in the Fn-F2 screens of the VM though

Did anyone work out a way to read the VM console output from the host operating system?

I looked thouhg the files in the slots directory but there isn't anything there.
70) Questions and Answers : Getting started : How to configure the maximum number of tasks and processes in project preferences (Message 47544)

I do all tasks with 1 CPU but atlas uses a lot of RAM due issue with how it works on windows.

So with 32 GB of ram you can only run 3 WUs, as CP said you are probably better off to run a few more CPU / WU

1. I aborted all the task and it came back, maybe as you say after reboot, so they would be restored from saved state.

I didn't have any problems for a long time with 6.1, some issues I imagine with the 7.0 branch as it's new.

All my computers started to use more cores.

I have the websettings of Max # CPUs No limit, so it could be that only in combo with this it went strange.

I don't think it would be a BOINC thing, it's the wrapper?

FYI, you might need to check your app_config.

<avg_ncpus>1.0</avg_ncpus>

is no longer passed to the VM

You need

<cmdline>--nthreads 1</cmdline>

I believe that the backend services make WU on demand so a low amount in the queue is conceptually fine
