Posted 22 May 2006 by Christian B. Post: There sure seems to be a lot of greedy people here using very large cache that's also a BOINC-problem. Why can't we just select cache size for every single project and every single computer? There's only a general setting. At least I have only found this one. I've set mine to 2 days, as I have some computers on some projects, that do not have a permanent connection to the net. But having set the cache to 2 days also means, that some other machines are downloading more than they need. Hopefully BOINC-developers are changing this one day. |

Well the benefit is, that the logfile isn't filling up with messages like "no work available". It's annoying to read the logfile when there's a message like this each and every hour ;) |

Posted 11 May 2006 by Christian B. Post: does anybody know if there is a newsletter, that is sent automatically once there is new work available? Either from lhc@home or from some team out there? Checking mail is easier for me than returning to the site each day. In periods of no work I usually disable work requests in BOINC and then it happens that I'm too late to get some work ;) |

Posted 17 Feb 2006 by Christian B. Post: I'm not quite sure if BOINC will run without problems on Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition. Tried one x64 edition here at work, but not all my 32-bit programs could run on that machine. Haven't tried BOINC, but I suggest you ask someone who did, before you install that windows. |

Posted 9 Nov 2005 by Christian B. Post: I do not really understand this thread. I thought workunits for linux and windows were the same, only different clients of course. Do you say that linux computers don't get as much work units as windows computers? I planned to install the client on my linux-based workstations as well, so I'm a little confused now and wonder if there's any sense in doing so. |
