1) Message boards : Number crunching : Computation error (Message 21977)

Post:

We have been considering killing the graphics as they are a stumbling block when compiling. I'll pester bigmac and Alex.

Please put in the effort to repair the graphics rather than kill them. Not using it at the moment, just manually tried the graphics from nostalgia... oops. Anyway the screensaver maxed to 5 minutes has little drag on computation. It's nice to occasionally get a brief visual of which project is being crunched, and some eye candy.

Even if power crunchers do the bulk of BOINC work (?) many of "the masses" including most who never use the message boards, enjoy and are at least partially motivated by the screensavers. Good will and education wrt individual projects are real benefits of BOINC imo, it's not only the project results that are helpful. [2 cents]
2) Message boards : Number crunching : LHC@home server being reconfigured today !! (Message 14808)

This may be true, but I question if it's the only problem. I wouldn't think it should cause the checksum/signature errors on bunches of other files, nor would it cause the .exe itself to be deleted would it?

I'm still getting them also, last time was for result 7546794 around 15:42 UTC 21 Sep file bottomOverlay_1.02_.tga and also the exe file.
The -163 errors were usually preceded by warnings about incomplete reads. Also got Checksum-or-signature-error for most other .tga files.

This host has recently attached and has never successfully downloaded work though it's fine on other projects. My original host has downloaded fine. It returned work from last night successfully, after uploading was fixed. This morning it's erroring out on max disk space exceeded.

5) Message boards : Number crunching : Upload problem (Message 14740)

Post:
One of my lhc machines failed 51 wus with download errors
The other has 4 stuck on upload errors; I've suspended network activity for now.

I'm sure the devs know this but fwiw the files it can't open do exist in the lhc projects directory, and they are not open by anything else according to procexp.

How many retries/how much time before uploading gives up and aborts a wu? I'd like to turn network activity back on before leaving for the day...
6) Message boards : Number crunching : Pending credit not being validated! (Message 14115)

Ditto here, 3 wus returned yesterday after quorum was met, still pending.

(Plus 1 returned June 18 where my result was the last of 3 -- but one of the results is half the credits of the other two so it may be waiting for more to validate.)

Right now BOINC is connecting to LHC@Home hourly to see if there is more work.

Set the project to No new work for now and BM will stop asking. Change it back when work comes in.

That would be now...

Getting too-many-connections errors on the website and cannot connect to database from the client. (Must've caught this from Rosetta, which looked just like this during much of Sunday.)

Here's a sample error from the site.
Warning: mysql_pconnect(): Too many connections in /shift/lxfsrk4101/data01/projects/lhcathome/html/inc/db.inc on line 16
Unable to connect to database - please try again later Error: 1040Too many connections

Didn't notice until now but only lost one here, no big deal but if it helps to identify them, it's this result.
10) Message boards : Number crunching : Host corruption solved? (Message 11059)

Sorry never mind -- misread the timestamp on some log messages. Updating venue manually fixed the client's messages eventually.

Doesn't look to me like you need another data point but here it is anyway: host 46266 which was fine earlier today. I assume it got corrupted when validating result 4027970. CPU type through average download rate, and venue are corrupted. Client 4.45 last contact Oct 26 01:06:06 UTC.
