I think the answer to your question is here: (begin by the end of the thread, your question is in the 4 last news).

P.S.: I think you should search first if somebody has already asked this question before asking it again and again and... ;-)

How ? I think Boinc recognize the computer with some caracteristics that the computer send himself. So why this "proxy" couldn't record this caracteristics from his clients and then send exactly the same data to boinc ?

I can't see the difficulty here... :-) But I guess there's one... :-/

Well... for the same reason (each WU are send to a spcific computer) I think it's not possible *but* it's AFAIK andit's not very far... ;-)

Anyway, it seems to me (I'm not an developer) that it could be done, a soft that "know" the id-caracteristic of each computer under himself anddown-upload WU sendind to the serverrequest in name of others computers. Exactly a proxy in fact but with caracteristic adapted to the fact that WU are sent to one computer. So this "proxy" will keep separatly different WU knowing who needs which.

I think this sort of Proxy doesn't exist but it should be possible if there isn't any risk for such system.

Others ? Spcialist ? ...

Sorry but I think you have no way to install a personal proxy. For the explanation from BOINC site read this: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/proxy_server.php

low on works mean under 1000 WU I think, so there are some new WU, it's sure!

And difference between News and status seem to me to be just a question of update of the state.

I do have and again the "update" of the status has little delay compare withe the reality at instant t. (imho)

Thanx a lot for this info, but, is it possible that you make a link in the front page (news) pointing this thread and all the others, where you give such important information ? I haven't always the time to scan all newsgroups and missing such info is a shame ;-/ So without loosing time for you to rewrite the same things two times, to make a link in one or two words pointing the threads seems to me a good idea... no ?

Yes yes yes!!! O:-)

Hello! Is it possible to know what is the difference between the different sorts of WU we're downloading ? I've searched in board and in the site but saw nothing. I've read too in boards there was WU of 100k turn and other of 1000k turns... how are they (you) knowing this ??? Of course I saw that they were faster to compute but... And what about tunescan ? Is it possible to see in the site somewhere a "definition" or function of each sort of WU.
And if I'm too curious compare to your free time just say it ;-)

Well, everybody have not a direct and permanent connection to the net, or not reliable dialup connection without human intervention. So the computer must be able to work during relative long period (one week, perhaps two) without dialup. But the work is done, and the WU will be uploaded later.

These side effect are mandatory 'till boinc can't use a dialup connection.

This is the situation of one of my 3 computers who is in my parent's home.

Pete, you seem to forget that your situation isn't identic for all other , some people are in situations that force them to download for a long period. On my 2 other computer, I use the same modus operandi than you: download-crunch-upload very quickly...just BK I can do this!

Here my two cents of explication... AFAIK
