Does anyone know if the graphics show while processing an LHC@Home unit are in any way respresetative of the unit?

I know that, or at least assume that, the SETI@Home graphics in some way represent the work unit I'm processing, similarly with climateprediction.net.

I was just wondering.

Slainte,

David

The LHC@Home web site suggests that it's a representation of the beam cross section, but in fact it isn't.

Think of it as a mass of particles operating under mutual attraction. It has only passing relevance to the calculations being performed. In fact, I suspect the ONLY connection it has to the computation is the number of turns displayed.

It's quite pretty, nonetheless!

Thanks for the info. The graphics are very pretty though. The courier/ X-files font is a nice touch

Am I the only one who doesn't manage to get the graphics? ._.
I'm running 4.13 on Win98, and if I click "Show Graphics" on a LHC workunit it would just crash the computer. The Sixtrack windows remains in tray, if I try to open it nothing happens, and if I terminate it (by Ctrl+Alt+Canc) also Boinc crashes.
And what's more, S@H graphics are work properly... ;_;

The current graphics, as MikeW quite rightly says, show just a
bunch of gravitationally attracted particles flitting about, and
not related to the particles being calculated. But a newer version
is almost ready which does display computed particles in a sort of
tunnel. We will release this soon, even though opinions here differ
on whether the newer display is prettier or not...

I certainly hope that "leaden" is the only one who is getting crashes.

I think, in case of LHC pretty, means true. Just don't care about fancy graphics, and made quite well visualisation of calculated things. Then it will be nice.
