I've also seen what the MD describes on other message boards as well. After a while, the person posts normally, but other people in the group suddenly become obsessed with flaming that person.

There's probably some sort of group psychology happening.. similar to elementary school where a group picks on the different kid.

Myself, I think that the altered 'group behaviour' is more disturbing than the 'different' behaviour of the singled out person.

I guess the net adds 'keyboard courage' or something. Normally, people wouldn't talk to strangers the same way they type to strangers over the net. In fact, 'in real life' they avoid conflict with the 'different' people in the 'real world'.
