HELP.....

Every result I download completes in about a second, and I get these messages:

LHC@home - 2004-10-23 19:33:41 - Failed to open core-to-app prefs file slots\\\init_data.xml

LHC@home - 2004-10-23 19:33:41 - Unrecoverable error for result v64lhc1000pronine-42s16_18551.03_1_sixvf_10558_3 (Couldn't start the app for this result: error -108)

LHC@home - 2004-10-23 19:33:42 - Computation for result v64lhc1000pronine-42s16_18551.03_1_sixvf_10558 finished

Its the same for every single workunit.

I tried detaching and re-attaching to the project.. No Fix.

I tried re-installing BOINC.. No Fix.

I dunno what else to try....

I've detached from the project for now, cause I'm wasting loads of WU....

Please help.....

The 108 error code means FOPEN, which I interpret as the file is open for one reason or another. The error codes can be find here.

Try unistalling Boinc, deleting the entire directory of Boinc and install again.
This could maybe resolve the problem.

Good luck.

You don't mention which BOINC version you are using, nor if it affects all or one of your computers. It could be useful for you to do so.

You may find that BOINC cannot open the file in question. You may have edited your post and lost a 0, but the file being sought should be in:
slots/0/init_data.xml

The most likely reason for BOINC to be unable to open a file, is usually related to permissions. Check that you can access the directory & file in question as the user who is executing BOINC. Make sure you can create a file there too.

Typically non-admin users cannot edit/update files in "Program Files" directory. You may have installed BOINC as administrator or equivalent and may be executing it as a user with less permissions. If that is the case, and you would rather not execute it as admin, install boinc to a folder other than "Program files". Did it work before you updated to SP2 and does it now fail since that time?

Of course, none of these options/suggestions may work for you, in which case let us know together with a bit more detail on the problem.

Kind regards

OK

A CHKDSK fixed it, some sort of corruption in the BOINC directory.

Thanks to all for their help and suggestions.
