It is a test project for a project called Einstein@home. I just got my first work unit yesterday. They only give out credit every once in a blue moon. If you look at my stats site, you will see that there is almost no credit to be had from it.

The goal of Pirates@home is to develop a screensaver for an upcoming project called Einstein@Home (http://www.physics2005.org/events/einsteinathome/) which will look for gravitational waves.
Pirates projects are very basic, the sources of their programs are available for download. They can serve as examples of how to use the BOINC framework to accomplish simple tasks.
And yes, work units are rare (ive had 3 in a month) but for me its not all about credit.

Hi!

Since the new WUs flow out, about 50% of them complete within 0 seconds to one or two minutes. Is anyone experiencing the same? I remeber reading a post that this are WUs with high energy particles (right explanation???) so there might be WUs that have short computation times because some particles get "lost". Is this the case, or is it some error on my machine?

There is a reference to these short running work units at the start of this thread .

You are also right about the loss of particles. On some computations particles are lost and eventually there are not enough to continue (not sure when its deemed to be too few) so the WU is stopped. This is not a "bad" result and this information is useful to the project.

Angs

Worse, many are failing to download. I'm seeing the same issues in SETI.

Well the only good thing about a lot of the short running WU's is that you get them out of the way quicker and go crunch some other Project...Right now I think I'm expending more CPU Cycles Downloading and Uploading the WU's than I am actually crunching them ... ;)

@Guido,

That's at least the third time I've seen this statement from you. You are incorrect in thinking a "-LIGHT YEAR -" is a measure of time. It's a measure of _DISTANCE_, the distance light travels in one year.

> all credits running fine ;-)
> if you have in the preferences set the contact network every -LIGHT YEAR -

Cheers,

Stephen
