Could it be that virtual machine ran out of memory? I remember that we used to have some tasks that required more than the 670 MB that is the default. So the VM started to swap and create a lot of disk traffic. For most tasks this is not a problem and default setting is enough to run through the task.
{edit] Too bad that TOP [alt+F3] doesn't work anymore on the terminal.

I have an overide in appconfig for the VM that it has 1.5 GB to aviod this, I think its just a bad WU?
