When I login to my account (no other users on), BOINC immediately produces an error message to the effect that initialization has failed. (I haven't yet noted the exact message.) The next message is "Failed to cleanup the Windows Socket Interface", which is also seen whenever another user logs in.

Equipment: Emachines T2082 with AMD Athlon 2000+ running XP SP2.

BOINC v. 4.09

"Failed to cleanup the Windows Socket Interface" generally means that you have tried to start the GUI twice.

For the other. Do you have BOINC set to run as a service? If so, the GUI may be erroring because the service is running.

any entries in the NT/W2k Log files?

BOINC is definitely not running as a service. Where do I find the log files?

I had this issue when trying to start BOINC under limited WindowsXP user account without having set the full control permissions for BOINC folder for all users. I Maybe this is your issue.

That might fix the problem with the other users, but I installed it in my default administrator account. This account should have full permissions to BOINC.

BOINC 4.13 does not have this problem, so I'm fine.
