LHC@home

There haven't been much news lately. My machines are sitting idly, acheing for workunits! Is there any information available on how the project will proceed? Will there be anything more exciting to work on than a particle-phyiscs-indy-500?

There are numerous studies lined up, but there have been a few issues with the servers as the user base has grown. A new server is due this week, and hopefully the LHC team will chat to the team at SETI to find out what they did when similar problems happened there.

After that's fixed we should see some new work.

Some of the studies are awaiting a solution to some compiler problems. I can see a few possible solutions to that if there are enough users, but we'll have to wait and see what LHC want to do.

In short, there's plenty of work to do, but there are some post-Beta niggles to work out.

Reading around the project people, it seems that they have some issues with the capability of the machine that is running the database server and also databse type, indexing etc.

It seems they are getting good advice from the various boinc project people.

It takes time to rebuild servers, transfer and rebuild databases etc escpecially iona live system.

We all look foraward to a better more stable LHC.
