More confusing - it now says

Up, low on work

(low on work != out of work) ??
So, is this an improvement or not?
I haven't received any new WUs yet.

low on works mean under 1000 WU I think, so there are some new WU, it's sure!

And difference between News and status seem to me to be just a question of update of the state.

I do have and again the "update" of the status has little delay compare withe the reality at instant t. (imho)

Check this thread

As xmal already stated, there is latency (currently pretty long, 20 minutes or so) between Server Status display and the actual work status. Low on work means less than 1000 work units.

- CLOSED - ... etc ad nauseum

Misfit this is well out of order.

Please don't wake up a thread that has been idle for 18 months just to close it, there is no point at all in bringing it to the top of the threadlists in the forum. That will do more to attract people to posting here again than your notices will stop.

It is like waking someone up to tell them they should be asleep.

And, in my view, I do not think it is appropriate to close off a thread you have not been part of recently before the closure.

Misfit, I usually enjoy your posts and the wierd sense of humour you bring with them, but unusually I have to say you got it wrong this time.

Server Status

Up, out of work
no work in progress
42 concurrent connections

Now that all WUs have been returned,
we will see how long before the next
batch of WUs are released.

I don't even get the point of this thread resurection here. If it wasn't resurected, then the thread would have remained "closed" by proxy. The proxy being that most peopple probably wouldn't even remember this thread was here, or care to look back.

Even though it was ressurected, I still don't feel inclined look back at something from 2004. The here and now is what matters to both our work queues as well as the respective projects themselves, and what people would post/respond to, one way or the other...

Misfit was probably just necromancing this thread to be funny and so people would ask him stuff like this.

It will give him a thread to check the next time he logsin.

Now I understand the reason for sorting posts by rating.

"It is like waking someone up to tell them they should be asleep." This happens a lot in hospitals, it's there way of making patients sleep through their stay 8-)

Actually, the reason the nurse comes into your room during the middle of the night and wakes you up -- it's to give you a sleeping pill so you can rest and get better ...

AHA! There you go again, taking a person who's mind is already decided on something, and trying to confuse them with facts!!! (lol)

LOL, wakes someone up to give them a sleeping pill... It'd be funny if someone was either very grouchy upon waking up, or rolls over and while still unconscious (so they don't know they're doing it), bops the person in the nose :rofl

Oh, and it'd be debatable whether that would always work. I swear, when I was last in the hospital they gave me Vicadin thinking it would put me to sleep. It reduced the pain yes, but had no effect on my wakefuless whatsoever. I was up all night, and getting a bit tired of this 1 person down the hall.

Lets just say I was sent to the dialysis wing for a blood clot in the leg. What I didn't know, is that wing doubled up as over-flow for the psychiatric patients. Whenever someone walked by, the lady would scream and yell, while banging (or perhaps throwing her self up against) the walls. Don't know about the latter, as I only heard it, didn't see it.

When I left the next day (getting out a bit early, but only if I gave myself self injections till the blood thinner took effect), I over-heard a nurse tell an intern "be careful of that lady in the corner. She's psychotic, and there's blood all over her room" EEK

Anyhow, Vikadin, and then Perkacet (when I had it for an extracted wisdom tooth the other week), didn't effect my wakefulness at all :D

I'm suffer from a mild epilepsy and although I'd on medication, they gave me some other stuff (a "mild" sedative) in case I had an episode.

Well, I had an episode in the middle of the night so I took one of these pills. Instead of mildly stopping the fits, it practically knocked me straight out. I rolled out of bed and hit the floor so hard it woke my parents up.

Next thing I know my dad's on the end of my bed and I've got my hand stuffed in one of my shoes.

It was quite funny actually (although my parents didn't find it so).

So who needs "2 Panadine Forte plus 1/2 bottle of scotch"........I've got something that's guaranteed to work (although it can have the side-effect of waking up the other people in the house)

I find it hilarious that some people get so bent outta shape over a simple thread resurrection now and then. How 'bout another, lol, or better yet ... keep this one going!

The problem with a "simple thread resurrection" is that there is some advice in the early part of the thread that was good advice in 2004 and is very bad advice now.

We can't really ask people to check the boards befroe posting questions if we are going to gring back 2-year old advice just for a joke.

In the cafe, yes, on the other boards, no. A gone-off topic is worse than simply off topic

I would really like the mods to delete theis thread before it misleads newcomers.
