Hi all, Sometime during last night, the electricity went out. Either it was out long enough to outlast my UPS battery, or my UPS didn't work, and my machine crashed. When I restarted this morning, everything seemed to be fine. I restarted BOINC (I do not have it autostart), and again, everything seemed fine. However, I checked the end of the "running.log" file for a long-running Theory task a few minutes ago, to see what progress it was making, and unfortunately, it seems to have restarted from the beginning: the last entry now is "Integrate 13 of 760", whereas that last time I checked yesterday it was at around 180-something. Would the machine crash have caused the Theory task to completely restart? |

I forgot to say: the "elapsed" time in BOINC did NOT reset, and is now around 4d 12h. |

Would the machine crash have caused the Theory task to completely restart? When a PC crashed and/or BOINC is not properly shutted down, VirtualBox is not able to save the VM-state to disk. After BOINC-startup the task errors out or when you're lucky/unlucky, the VM is starting the job from the beginning. The progress of the task in runRivet.log on disk is not updated any longer, but the progress can still be seen with BOINC Manager's "Show Graphics" . BTW: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/workunit.php?wuid=238232604 was a resend and the original client returned a valid result a bit too late. I would abort that task. |
