A lot of very short tasks at the moment. Some of them take less than 10 seconds, mostly less than 30 seconds. They do get validated and get credit.
[edit] Here's one: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/result.php?resultid=428268819

Getting the same, mine are running 20-40 seconds. Probably some extreme settings that kill all particles very quickly.

A faster one had finished while I was writing. There's no CPU time but in the valid tasks list it was visible: Run time 2.01s , CPU time 0.72s. :D

I had a few hundred of those less than 10 second ones but just got a Run time 1 hours 23 min 16 sec and dozens more that look like they will run close to 90 minutes and more (93 credits)
(If you were here in the early days 2004 until we started VB you remember we had all of the Sixtracks running for a few seconds and around 1 credit each)

I’ll also be presenting the project at the upcoming HL-LHC collaboration meeting, where I’m sure we’ll attract even more colleagues eager to run exciting simulations with your help, all for the advancement of accelerator physics :D

This is the presentation (and it's VERY interesting!!)

Thanks for sharing!

In other news: getting decent credits/CPU time (even on Windows) with the latest batch that was released a few hours ago.

Greetings!
Please let me know how/when you were able to download xtrack WU?

I have been trying for days with no luck.

Thanks in advance,
Jay

I got the first ones at 14:39 UTC. Didn't do anything, one of the laptops picked them up by chance. Then the others followed. Been running Einstein/Asteroids with 0 resource share while waiting for new tasks here.

Hi !
Have you enabled "Run test applications" in the Project settings ?
What does Boinc Event Log say when you force a project update ?

Thank you for your response!
--edit-- The 'test' was the trick!! I just downloaded 7 WU. YAY!
-- end edit--
I had not checked "test" . I just changed project preferences and enabled 'test'

my Boinc Logs says:
Sun 12 Oct 2025 07:17:06 PM EDT | LHC@home | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
Sun 12 Oct 2025 07:17:06 PM EDT | LHC@home | No tasks sent
Sun 12 Oct 2025 07:17:06 PM EDT | LHC@home | No tasks are available for XTrack
Sun 12 Oct 2025 07:17:06 PM EDT | LHC@home | Tasks for AMD/ATI GPU are available, but your preferences are set to not accept them

i wrote a shell script to update LHC every 4 to 6 minutes. Will keep you posted on the outcome.

A question for you:
are you using a 'standard' BOINC -LHC install?

FYI, I am running

I got quite a few tasks, with work request for keeping the pc full for one day.

The predicted time for the running of the work units of _232 and _234 was about 0:40 hours, but it seems like they all end up going for 3-4 hours. I also got _239 and _240, but haven't started on those yet.

So it looks like I actually have work for 4 days, hopefully I can finish all the task before the deadline, but I might have to cancel a few.

I have a 8 threads linux host that says

10096 LHC@home 13 oct. 2025, 19:43:05 This computer has reached a limit on tasks in progress
Why this ? there are only a modest 127 tasks validated since yesterday on it (only 1 error with 0 sec calculation).

I have another 4 threads linux host that has much more tasks without problem (currently 148 in cache), which does not seem crazy to me.

Bugged WU, might be interesting to find out what's wrong with it.

Just the switch from 0.41 to 0.5. Same issue as this post

Oh, right, forgot that there might be old 0.41 tasks lingering... Sorry.

I roughly got like 700 WUs downloaded for Xtrack. But I think my computer can finish all this work before Sunday this week.

I'm still receiving tasks, but only 1 by 1, when 1 terminates, there is no cache available.

I didn't change anything on that host, at start I had some reasonable cache (not hundreds, and that was fine), but now I can't.

As long as I still get some tasks, it doesn't make much difference (except time to send back / get a new one I guess), but still this is very strange.
