Fulfilling a life-long dream in a few weeks! We are traveling to Switzerland in early September, and plan to visit CERN on one of the days we are there. Hoping to get in one of the tours, though the website said only about 10% of the people who visit are able to go on a tour. Is there mention of the @home projects in the Gateway center? Would love to be able to point it out to everyone and say, "I am a part of that!" For those outside of CERN, have any of you visited and toured CERN? For anyone inside, do you have any suggestions on what we have to see? I grew up next to FermiLab outside Chicago, and have wanted to see CERN since I was a kid. Cannot wait! - Tom. |

Did you get to visit FermiLab?...I went to Batavia a few decades ago Well if you get on the tour just show my stats here and say you did all of that work I am a long way away from Geneva and over the hill......and could never talk the wife into making the trip ( I am NW of the Linear Collider at Hanford WA} Have a fun trip and that is a vacation from way over here for sure |

I hope that, during the next LS, they will organize it again |

Hi Tom, I see your Geneva trip is already over but for others with the same question, here's my advice: You can now visit the new Science Gateway of CERN freely, even without a reservation, but to be sure you can pre-reserve your entry on the page https://visit.cern/node/32019. There are plenty of good exhibits there, plus a cafeteria and a shop. Unfortunately getting on to a guided tour inside the site is now difficult without an "angel" who works there to help you. And retired people like myself can't easily help either. Getting there is very easy: take the tram 18 from downtown (e.g. the Cornavin railway station) to its terminus. Good visiting! I've been since I live in Switzerland is not so difficult for me to make the trip. As Ben said, try to get in to the tour, it was great. Lawrence met me for lunch. |
