Why can't I run on my computer lhc@home. My processor is: AMD Ryzen 7 5825U with Radeon Graphics 2.00 GHz The operating system is: Windows 11 Home 24H2. The app does not download data for calculations. |

Prozessor besitzt keine hardwareseitige Unterstützung für Virtualisierung This Processor have no Hardware-Acceleration active. Looking into BIOS, to make it avalaible. Parameter is AMD-V or VT-X. |

I have the exact same CPU in my BOINC-dedicated miniPC. Virtualization is activated in BIOS but BOINC still says "CPU does not have hardware virtualization support". I have the latest versions of BIOS, BOINC and VirtualBox, all drivers are up to date etc. I have the same issues with 3 other laptops having various Intel CPUs: i5-6200U; i7-1165G7; Ultra 5 125H. All have virtualization enabled, latest versions/updates for everything but LHC still won't get tasks. The single machine that is working is equipped with an i7-5600U and I have no idea why it works and the others don't. ![]() |

This is a common problem. Many settings must be exactly correct for LHC@home to use VirtualBox successfully. The symptom is that the computer information page shows Virtualization Virtualbox (N.N.N) installed, CPU does not have hardware virtualization supportwhen the hardware clearly is virtualization capable. This can be caused by virtualization support being off in BIOS (AMD-V or VT-x) or by a handful of Windows settings that must be disabled:
Disable Hyper-V Disable Virtual Machine Platform Disable Windows Hypervisor Platform Disable Windows Sandbox

Thanks for the quick and efficient list of tips! I did all this (except Hyper-V and Sandbox which were already disabled) on the i7-1165G7, rebooted, but still no change. Will try the others as well when I get the chance. ![]() |

Yeti's checklist is a valuable resource. https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/forum_thread.php?id=4161&postid=29359#29359 Note the remarks about Docker and disable that if present. It seems that Docker and VirtualBox are mutually exclusive. Note the remarks about client_state.xml. BOINC may be remembering an old state and not using virtualization. Check that Windows Task Manager >> Performance >> CPU lists Virtualization: Enabledbelow the graph. If Task Manager doesn't report Enabled, BOINC has no chance. If you don't see several lines of information below the gaph, double-click the graph to expand the view. Also, you can use a command prompt: Enter systeminfo and look for Virtualization Enabled In Firmware: Yesunder Hyper-V Requirements. |

I see a recommendation to install Docker in BOINC on all my machines, but I haven't installed it so that shouldn't be an issue. Task Manager does show virtualization to be enabled but the LeoMoon CPU-V app recommended by Yeti only shows it as supported, but not enabled (DEP is green, but SLAT and VM Monitor Mode Extensions is red). I also checked systeminfo and under Hyper-V Requirements I only see one line: "A hypervisor has been detected. Features required for Hyper-V will not be displayed." Does this shed some light on the problem? RAM and disk space should be sufficient: right now I have about 17 GB of free RAM (out of 32) and over 90 GB disk space available to BOINC. I just installed the Extension Pack for VirtualBox but if I have to do any tweaking I will need complete hand-holding because I have absolutely no knowledge about how VMs work :( In client_state.xml the p_vm_extensions_disabled value is 0 as it should be. ![]() |

I suspect you may be running into a Registry problem. I have no experience with that. There has been some discussion in the forums so a search should be productive. One other possibility is WSL. Some have reported that it can't be enabled. I have no experience with that, either. Check in appwiz.cpl >> Turn Windows features on or off for Windows Services for Linux. The discrepancies in CPU-V and systeminfo output seem like good hints but I don't know what to do about them. I found a Reddit thread https://www.reddit.com/r/virtualization/comments/10u97aq/amd_ryzen_7600x_cpu_shows_no_slat_and_vm_monitor/ that led to a Microsoft page http://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/identity-protection/credential-guard/configure?tabs=intune#disabling-virtualization-based-security. It looks like all virtualization based security will need to be disabled in order for LHC@home to work, but this is all outside my area of expertise. The MS page gives what looks like good instructions, anyway. Extension Pack for VirtualBox seems to work without tuning. |

I'll take another swing at the problem after I get back from next week's holiday. Worst case scenario is that I keep the old laptop 100% dedicated to LHC and use the others mostly for medical projects, which is my main direction with BOINC. Thanks a lot for all the explanations and sources for further tweaking, it will surely help others as well! ![]() |

I see this on your computer: CPU type AuthenticAMD AMD Ryzen 7 5825U with Radeon Graphics [Family 25 Model 80 Stepping 0] Number of processors 16 Coprocessors AMD AMD Radeon (TM) Graphics (6234MB) OpenCL: 2.0 Virtualization Virtualbox (7.0.6) installed, CPU does not have hardware virtualization support its should work from here: https://www.amd.com/en/support/downloads/drivers.html/processors/ryzen/ryzen-5000-series/amd-ryzen-7-5825u.html I would think its dissabled in the BIOS or Hyper-V is on: Run this to dissable it: bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off |

I tried everything outlined in different posts/tutorials but nothing seems to have worked. Just before I got back from holiday, there was a power outage which instantly shut down the miniPC. When I turned it back on, LHC started downloading Theory tasks, I kid you not. ![]() |

there was a power outage which instantly shut down the miniPC. When I turned it back on, LHC started downloading Theory tasks If I understand it correctly, Fast Boot (on by default in Win 10 & 11) would not work under those circumstances, so a full re-initialization of the OS would take place on startup. Rebooting with Start > Power > Restart is supposed to do that, but Start > Power > Shutdown then reboot retains some state for Fast Boot to work. A hardware reset should also cause full re-initialization of the OS. Removing standby power (difficult with some laptops) while the system is down should force a reset when power is restored. I wonder if you and many others were tricked by the state retained for Fast Boot when trying to reconfigure Windows to disable the components that conflict with LHC@home. Do you recall the procedure that you used to reboot the system when you were trying unsuccessfully to enable LHC tasks? Were you using Restart or Shutdown? ![]() |
