Boinc developers are working to integrate natively Docker on Boinc platform.
Benefits: portability, faster, use of gpus, easier maintenance, etc

Are admins working with boinc developers to see if it is suitable for LHC@Home?

Seems that the work is progressing...

- New philosophy: always query the presence of software (WSL distros, Docker)
even if client config doesn't allow its use.
Send the config info to scheduler, and enforce it there.
- New philosophy: allow running jobs in any WSL distro
except those disallowed in the config

- Add plan class support for WSL and Docker app versions

- client: query the libc version of WSL distros.
The plan class entry for a WSL app version
can specify a min libc version.

- wsl_wrapper: add --min_libc_version cmdline arg
(should match plan class spec)

This feature is for Windows pcs (that are the absolute majority), but it's also for linux machine (if you have NOT a native linux app).

Virtualbox runs just fine. I see no need for Docker.

Simply not true for LHC@home. See statistics page.

Do you see the benchmarks between VirtualBox and Docker? Don't you like to have access to gpu for vm? No? Don't you like that, at administrative side, it's easier to maintain?

Only for LHC.
If you see ALL others Boinc project, are ALL windows majority.

P.S.
By the way: what's the problem with Docker? it's a possibility that doesn't take anything away....

Ok, not all, but the ultra-vast majority.
So, what is the problem with Docker?

Thank you.

Not even "ultra-vast majority".

You know all those VBox apps are running Linux inside the VMs, right.

You are a lucky man.
I have only Windows computers.
And, if i can give more computational power to the boinc project only with simple change of the virtualization platform, i'm happy...

Yes, it is. But i think this is not the topic of the thread.

You know all those VBox apps are running Linux inside the VMs, right.

So? Do you know the difference between VirtualBox on WIndows and Docker/WLS on Windows?

You consider that a "vast" difference. That pretty much settles the validity of the rest of your complaint. Enjoy your whinge.

Oh, my gosh.
I'm NOT whinging.
I'm only saing that in the vast part of the Boinc projects, the majority of computational power comes from Windows machines.
This is a FACT. Is it a problem for you?

But it is only a secondary point and, again, you're OFF TOPIC.
The thread is about Docker and the advantages it does.

Nope, you're whinging, and you're also categorically wrong in your insistence on using the term "vast". Go find a dictionary and look it up. The word has a meaning. You are misusing it. The word "fact" also has a meaning and you're misusing that as well.
Since the entire foundation of your whinge is objectively wrong, the singular reason to switch Windows machines from VBox to Docker, which is unnecessary anyway, would be to shut you up.
Or you could just do that of your own volition and save CERN the effort of changing a system that only you are railing against.
