As the title implies really:

What is the difference between a v64lhcpro.... WU and a v64tunescan... WU?

Obviously the tunescan is much larger as it has a to completion time of around 8 hrs compared to 25 min.

Thanks,

Scott

I think the tunescan WU's have 1,000,000 turns, while the lhcpro have 100,000. Some one please correct me if I am wrong!

The different names given to the units signify which study they belong to: there are a number of different studies lined up. Each study looks at different aspects of the LHC.

Specifically, the tunescan studies are looking at high amplitude oscillations in the beam. These units are prone to early termination when all the particles in the model hit the wall early on. Some, however, get past that and run on.

Other studies look at long term stability (1,000,000 turns). I guess there are also studies looking at the injection dynamics and beam deterioration characteristics, blah, blah, blah...
