j'ai fait une installation neuve de linux mint 21.3 vanessa avec boinc 7.18.1 et virtualbox 6.1.48.
Tous mes calculs lhc@home partent en erreur code 1 et je ne trouve pas la solution.
Quelqu 'un pourrait il m'aider a résoudre ce probleme.

je ne veux pas faire de calcul avec cvfms mais avec virtualbox.
je ne veux pas faire d'application native car je suis nouveau sous linux et je ne comprends pas comment installer cvfms,
c'est pour cela que je veux utiliser virtualbox.
J ai suivi des tutos pour installer cvfms mais rien ne fonctionne et je ne trouve pas de tuto qui explique comment faire simplement.
Mon probleme est que meme avec virtualbox rien ne fonctionne.
Cela m'ennuie car lhc@home est une des rares applications qui sont tres interessantes sous boinc avec gpugrid et world community grid.

I don’t want to do calculations with cvfms but with virtualbox.
I don’t want to make a native application because I’m new to linux and I don’t understand how to install cvfms,
That’s why I want to use virtualbox.
I followed tutorials to install cvfms but nothing works and I can’t find a tutorial that explains how to do it simply.
My problem is that even with virtualbox nothing works.
This bothers me because lhc@home is one of the few applications that are very interesting under boinc with gpugrid and world community grid.

I used the world community grid tutorial to install boinc.


Download for Debian

We recommend installing the BOINC client directly from the Ubuntu/Debian repositories.

In a terminal window, run the following command:

sudo apt install boinc-client boinc-manager

Set the BOINC client to automatically start after you restart your computer:

sudo systemctl enable boinc-client

Start the BOINC client:

sudo systemctl start boinc-client




Allow group access to client access file:

sudo chmod g+r /var/lib/boinc-client/gui_rpc_auth.cfg

Add your Linux user to the BOINC group to allow the BOINC Manager to communicate with the BOINC client:

sudo usermod -a -G boinc $USER

Allow your terminal to pick up the privileges of the new group:

exec su $USER

In the same terminal window, start the BOINC Manager:

boincmgr -d /var/lib/boinc-client

When BOINC Manager opens, select World Community Grid from the list of BOINC projects then enter your World Community Grid username and password.

When these steps are completed, you should see a screen to confirm that you've been successfully signed up to World Community Grid.

You have downloaded the Ubuntu/Debian software. Download for other platforms.

Is user boinc a member of group vboxusers? Run

sudo groups boinc

to find out.
If not, run this to add boinc to vboxusers:

sudo groupmod -a -U boinc vboxusers.

Also, if you want to use b the boinc manager GUI, make sure your user is a member of group boinc:

sudo groupmod -a -U <your_user_name> boinc

Then run

kdesu -u boinc /usr/bin/boincmgr

to start the manager.

That should have been "usermod" not "groupmod".

If you want to give it a go again, you can try to setup boinc in virtualbox so you can try things out

j'ai essayé ce matin avec linux mint 20.3 et lhc@home fonctionnait tres bien avec virtualbox 6.1
le probleme survient aprs les mises a jour vers linux mint 21.3

I tried this morning with linux mint 20.3 and lhc@home worked very well with virtualbox 6.1
the problem occurs after updates to linux mint 21.3

I don't see an error here, what I have noticed on an upgrade of OS is that the permission of the files is reset or the service goes back to strict protections.

ls -l /etc/boinc-client/ & /var/lib/boinc-client/

All files should belong to BOINC user

When looking at the file with sudo systemctl edit boinc-client.service
You can see the line

ProtectSystem=full (without the #)

e,g,

### Editing /etc/systemd/system/boinc-client.service.d/override.conf
### Anything between here and the comment below will become the contents of the drop-in file
