For me, I'm told I'm paid to work only 17.5 hours per week. Which, of course, doesn't pay the rent in present-day London.
I don't understand house prices. Looking at one in the next street to me which went on sale, it would not cost that to build it. So where is the money going? Could we be overpopulated? My house is worth three times what it was when I bought it 20 years ago, something is terribly terribly wrong.

Having said that, I just found 22,000 square feet of land with building permission and some old foundations, plus a small lake, for £33K.

From when I've been active in the housing market, the only real variable is the price of land. Back in the '80s the difference between a vacant lot in Liverpool (Sydney) and one with a house already built was $35,000 -- no matter the location. The cost of building a house? $35,000.

That doesn't explain the one I just found. It's near Glasgow. Perfect for commuting.
