I'm running one of the tasks in Milkyway@Home (specifically - Milkyway@home N-Body Simulation 1.82 (mt)). I'm also running an app that periodically monitors CPU core temperatures and loading. I've noticed that the core temps are oscillating between mid-range and "hot". If I use Windows Task manager to watch a graphical chart of the CPU loading, there is a very pronounced sawtooth waveform. The CPU fan speed varies up and down periodically with the core temps. I've tried various settings for max CPU loading and percentage of used CPUs, but nothing seems to make any difference. I'm concerned that the constant changes in the fan speed may damage my system if I run the tasks long-term. Since they are simulations, I'm wondering if the system behavior that I'm seeing is due to the task being run, rather than some setting in either my system or the BOINC Manager compute settings. Can anyone comment or provide guidance?
