I do it for the science and the community (these forums). On that note, BOINC forums need lots of work before they become as good as phpBB.

Offtopic (sorry Guido):
What exactly do you miss? "need lots of work" is a bit vague =)

If they did away with the stats, how many would still crunch? Very few. Why do you think projects have stats and teams, etc. To get people interested and keep them interested. Very, very few people would crunch just for the science. Let's be honest about it. No matter what the reason, the projects get crunched and that's what the project needs.

I find the distributed computing concept fascinating. Credits are fun, but that's not what I'm in it for. :)

I agree KingPin, it doesn't really matter what your crunching the WU's for, If I was only Crunching for the Credits it doesn't make my Finished WU's any less worthy or important than somebody that say's their Crunching for the Science only ... IMO

Sorry, really I guess the main thing making read vs. unread threads look different. It wouldn't have to be that major, just a cookie and a session that records that last time you visited.

Personally, I'm (usually) initially doing it 95:5 for Science.

As the years pass, it shifts towards 50:50, as routine sets in and things can become a bit boring.

Racing around in the Stats and having perfect excuses to buy shiny new Hardware & see how they affect total output performance and Statistics sort of keep things interesting in the long run ;)

I do it for the screensaver and keeping my computers busy when I'm not using them. The stats are secondary.

The latest version of the BOINC web code does include a unread posts flag. It just hasn't been implemented on most projects.

In other words, Barker, you want a 'classic' CPDN board.
I prefer it too, though I am willing to put up with BOINC-style boards for non-CPDN projects.
