Hi all,

I'm having an issue with my ATLAS Simulation 2.00 (vbox64_mt_mcore_atlas) jobs while running on Windows OS where the progression slows to a crawl the closer it reaches completion. The status also states that it is using 8 CPU cores, but it uses only 1 (and the same) CPU core when I'm monitoring my laptop performance through Task Manager. I've tried troubleshooting with Yeti's Checklist (https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/forum_thread.php?id=4161) the best I could. I can't find the app_config.xml and cc_config.xml files in the working directory. It is getting very close to the deadline at the time of writing and I'm considering ignoring future ATLAS jobs on Windows OS till this is fixed as I have aborted a similar job before: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/result.php?resultid=338050784

My setup is a dual-boot laptop with Pop! OS (Linux distro, with latest version). ATLAS jobs running on that platform have no problems and are able to utilise multiple CPUs as stated.

The VM never booted properly. Abort the task and try a new one.
You could also first try a single Theory vbox task.

Have a look into VirtualBox Media Manager whether there are remnants of old stuck VM's and if there are old vdi-file in BOINC's slot directories.

Hi,

Thanks for the help. It seems that my Windows 11 OS can only support up to 6-CPU ATLAS tasks even after clearing out old VMs from the VirtualBox list and from the `...\ProgramData\BOINC\slots\` folder.

Since I'm using a dual-boot computer with a Linux OS, I've set separate preferences (home/work/school - anyone will do) and attach that to the Windows host (under 'Account' -> 'Computers on this account' -> 'Details' -> 'Location')

I hope this helps others.
