Just checking my Work, and found 3 results that has been invalidated: WUID's 111187 137756 123645 Every time investigation shows that the two other hosts are Pentium 4 equipped computers. I run an Athlon XP 3000. Please check this problem out. It is not the credits that bother me, but if my results are invalid, my computer is not helping You, is it? You need valid and reliable results in order to calibrate Your magnets, and if I am only producing trash, I may as well spare my Electricity. ChrisD I have 35 results pending. As they become invalidated, I'll append to this thread. |

Yes, Athlons and Pentiums have differencies. If you didn't get credit, it means that there was really lots of difference between the results. Is your computer overclocked? If it is, then that might explain something. If it's not, then your work still helps us because we can compare the results and see which went wrong, hopefully improving the software. Some of the calcualations are chaotic, meaning that a slightest difference in some point will cumulate into bigger, significiant difference in the end. Markku Degerholm LHC@home Admin |

> OK. Sorry if this is a dumb question but how the heck are you checking this? > When I try to view any results (or pending credits for that matter) I get a > page saying that feature is temporarily disabled. > FYI Feature has been disabled for some days due to server overload, but is now operational again :) ChrisD |

I too, have just received an "Invalid result" which equals no credit as a result. This is a bit annoying but I don't understand all the particulars. This has occurred multiple times to other people. Not a drawing attraction by any means to someone who wants to help in this research. For those who receive invalid results, try to hang in there and keep supporting this research even though at times it may feel like a slap in the face for dedication to the project, after all it's really not that at all. LHC@home is a great project, so let's keep standing behind it and be there for scientific value. |

I too, have just received an "Invalid result" which equals no credit as a result. This is a bit annoying but I don't understand all the particulars. PCs in the wider world are not all as reliable as we'd like. Frequently, there are minor faults or components that fail under stress that do not manifest themselves in normal usage. These failures can affect the result returned by BOINC. BOINC issues a work unit to several PCs (the exact number varies between projects) to overcome this problem. When results are returned they are compared with other results and when a quorum of results match credit is granted. If a result does not match the quorum no credit is granted to it. An isolated invalid result is of no great concern. If you receive many invalid results then you would be well to check your hardware. Gaspode the UnDressed http://www.littlevale.co.uk |
