Hello! Yesterday all my tasks failed unexpectedly after working fine for a few weeks (so Virtualization was on and VBox working and so on). After those tasks failed I no longer got any new tasks from any project. You can see the tasks here if that would help: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/results.php?userid=454260. I tried everything I could find on this forum. Made sure that Virtualization was on in BIOS, made sure that Hyper-V and Windows Hypervisor Platform was off, made sure to set p_vm_extensions_disabled to 0 in client_state.xml, reinstalled VBox and Boinc. Today I saw that on my computer information on this website (https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/show_host_detail.php?hostid=10682010) it says "Virtualization: Virtualbox (6.1.18) installed, CPU does not have hardware virtualization support". Does anyone know how I can change that so I can at least get new tasks to see if it was a temporary error or if there is indeed something wrong with my Virtualization? Edit: In case it is relevant I did update my BIOS between my last successful tasks and the tasks that failed, which did disable Virtualization in BIOS, but I enabled it before starting BOINC again. I don't think it should matter as well since one of the tasks did start successfully and ran a while before crashing and that was all after the BIOS update finished. |

Have you saved the BIOS before rebooting. SVM must be enabled in BIOS, when you take a look in it after starting the PC. Therefore you had successful Atlas-Tasks before, there must something be going wrong with SVM-Parameter. |

Yes, SVM is enabled in BIOS, I have double checked it. Task Manager supports that as well. I seems that it is just on my computer information on this website it still says it does not have hardware virtualization support. |

Solved it :) In Windows Features there was a feature turned on called Virtual Machine Platform that had been turned on. After disabling and rebooting tasks can be fetched again. Holy moly, there are a lot of things that can interfere with each other when it comes to Virtualization! |

Good luck on your way thru our projects :-)) You are on a good way! |

LeoMoon reports that Hardware Virtualization is supported, and is ENABLED. But the BOINC tasks all show "Virualization Virtualbox (6.1.12) installed, CPU does not have hardware virtualization support" Can anyone explain this. Thanks [/img] |

Have a look at Yeti's checklist: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/forum_thread.php?id=4161&postid=29359 I presume you tried a vbox application before you enabled virtualization support. If that's the case, Boinc made a setting in your client_state.xml (p_vm_extensions_disabled). |

Hi, Something like this happened to me just about 3 hours ago when my computer rebooted after having installed kb5029263 https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/topic/august-8-2023-kb5029263-os-build-22621-2134-f8d4d3de-47c1-40e1-a2e6-97c2770ee2e8 Today (10th Aug 2023) before 15:40 CEST everything was OK and I was running Theory jobs normally, now I can't get anymore jobs. I tried Yeti's checklist https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/forum_thread.php?id=4161#29359 but no luck. Host ID https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/show_host_detail.php?hostid=10616627 https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/results.php?hostid=10616627 OS: Win 11 22H2 (OS Build 22621.2134) AMD Ryzen 5 3400G, 32GB RAM, 140GB disk cca BOINC: 7.22.2 (x64) Virtualbox: 7.0.10 r158379 (Qt5.15.2) with corresponding Extensions installed No Docker, no Hyper-V, no Virtual Machine Platform, no WSL or WSL2 or any other virtualisation technology LeoMoon CPU-V shows two green checks AMD-v Supported and AMD-v enabled SVM is enabled in BIOS, NX is enabled in BIOS client_state.xml has this <p_vm_extensions_disabled>0</p_vm_extensions_disabled> antivirus is Microsoft Defender (I tried some things from here https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/forum_thread.php?id=5797 but no success. Any other suggestion? Best regards |

Is Hyper-V now on? This must be off. Is AMD-V or VT-X enabled in BIOS? This must be on (Hardware-Acceleration). |

Hyper-V is off. AMD-V is enabled in BIOS. If I create a new virtual machine in Virtualbox and I start it - it starts without problems, no error. As I said - I was able to run jobs until 15:40 CEST when computer rebooted after Windows Update. After that all my Theory jobs failed and I didn't get any new jobs. I installed new windows 11 on another machine and I have the same issue. Unfortunately I wasn't fast enough and win 11 simply installed all the latest updates... https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/show_host_detail.php?hostid=10834815 This is from new machine's BOINC event log: 10/08/2023 22:38:26 | | Processor: 16 AuthenticAMD AMD Ryzen 7 5700G with Radeon Graphics [Family 25 Model 80 Stepping 0] 10/08/2023 22:38:26 | | Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 htt pni ssse3 fma cx16 sse4_1 sse4_2 movebe popcnt aes f16c rdrandsyscall nx lm avx avx2 sse4a osvw wdt topx page1gb rdtscp fsgsbase bmi1 smep bmi2 On the same machine with windows 10 installed (no BIOS change) it downloads and runs jobs OK https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/show_host_detail.php?hostid=10834818 |

YES! I somehow missed this. Apparently the Update chaneged that. But I somehow missed it from the list... Thank you for your help! And have a nice weekend! |

I had the same problem with this laptop: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/show_host_detail.php?hostid=10842933 Just restarted LHC (since 2019?) as some of my other projects are without work. I'm not computer savvy. Used to be in the days of MS-Dos, but then tech sort of ran away with me. I do like to tinker and follow instructions. Been running Boinc for ages. Started with United Devices (for those that are long in the tooth). One of my other laptops downloaded a Theory app with no sweat. My newest laptop was not liking it at all. LeoMoon CPU-V was telling me that VT-X was supported but not enabled. Went into my BIOS and found that it *was* enabled. Task Manager said that Visualisation was enabled. Finally found this thread and translated the German and discovered that it was Windows Defender Core Isolation - Memory Integrity that had to be turned off. Did that and... BINGO!!! - Just downloaded my first 3 tasks. Thank you. Problem seems to be solved. Question: do I really want this to be turned off? Is it safe? Guess the answer is the standard one: It's my risk. But what is the risk? |

If you have now Hardware Acceleration on, this is ok. You have to remember, after a reboot it can be set to off, BIOS upgrade for example. |
