I notice the message boards becoming very sluggish. SETI had a problem with this when their upload/download directory got too large. They had to move their data around, and the resulting mess is history.

I hope we won't see a repeat of this at LHC@Home as the userbase grows.

I'm not noticing any slowdown, Mike.

Serious sloth here again, and this message popping up all over:

Warning: Too many connections in /shift/lxfsrk429/data01/boinc/projects/lhcathome/html/inc/db.inc on line 20
Unable to connect to database - please try again later Error: 1040Too many connections

It seems to have cleared again now, but...

Of course as soon as I post this it will get faster again :)

It seems we now have three threads covering server performance and database connectivity problems.

See here and here

I'm also getting "no work from server" "no work available", when the server is saying there are over 25000 wu's available. I haven't reached my daily limit on those machines, so what's up?

Using broadband it takes me more then 1 minute to load any webpage.
From the beginning and up to some days ago, it took only 1 second or even less to load any page.

What is going on ?

LHC@home - 2004-10-02 15:16:53 - Sending request to scheduler: http://lhcathome-sched1.cern.ch/scheduler/cgi
LHC@home - 2004-10-02 15:17:41 - Scheduler RPC to http://lhcathome-sched1.cern.ch/scheduler/cgi succeeded

Connecting to scheduler yesterday evening (UTC time around 22h.) no connection available or no work available although more then 15000 WU's were available.

Hello Cern, time to do something.

All was very fine in Beta, what is the reason why all is going slow?

Greetings from Belgium

We increased number of maximum database connections are restarted the database server. Things seem to be running smoother now.

Sorry for this... It's just hard to predict what things break down next when lots of new users are signing up.

EDIT: It's still too slow... Server CPU load is pretty low, so there must be some other bottleneck somewhere. Trying to find out where...

You need heavy duty servers for these types of projects not Mickey Mouse boxes.

BOINC NEWS !!!
August 5, 2004
Large BOINC projects (like SETI@home) were getting on the order of a million files in upload/download directories. This caused OS performance problems. We fixed this by providing a two-level directory hierarchy for upload/download directories.

Anyway... you may have lost ,because of the bottleneck, some of my returned results, they show up as an unknown result_outcome ( 1-2 OCT).I don't think they were short units.

Thanks for taking care of this Markku.

Hope you find the bottleneck.

Wish you good luck.
