I run all my Boinc clients as a Windows XP service and check them with Boincview. I'm running 4.09 right now, but thought about going to 4.11 |

Could you please tell me where can I find info on how to run BOINC as a service? |

After you get it setup with the Boinc_gui.exe client, shut it down. Go into the windows command prompt box and CD to your boinc folder. Then type the following "boinc_cli.exe -install". Go into the windows services and click on the Boinc service. Click the logon tab and click "Local system account". Start the service. DO NOT let your Boinc_gui client start at start up (very dangerous). Just take it out of your startup folder. |

Just a note on 4.11. I am running it on about 25 different machines and have had the cross-project contamination on one. It involved Pirates and LHC. An update to LHC got it back but Pirates has completely disappeared. Nothing that I have done has brought it back. The only thing left is a detach/attach which I will do tonight after I get home. So, there are still some problems. Stay away from the Alpha's unless you are willing to risk and know what you are doing. Link. |
