One of my machines is using 3 cores out of 6 for Boinc CPU tasks (since it supports GPU tasks aswell). I've had an LHC Theory task (1 CPU core) for about 2 weeks. Since I've set Rosetta at a much higher priority, it hardly gets run. The deadline is now looming, and it's only just switched to panic mode. There's one day left of work to do, and one day one hour of time left until the deadline. And since it's failed to notice that my CPU is suspended while I play games (usually 3 hours an evening), it will miss the deadline. Shouldn't Boinc leave more leeway? And how strict are these deadlines in LHC?

I guess I'll have to let it run that task while I play games tonight.

And yes I do feel guilty about not doing much LHC work recently, but I've been prioritising the coronavirus research. They do often run out, so LHC gets time then. Plus when I get my 24 core machine built, everything gets a go.

Maybe they can do a study of how a proton beam blasts apart a coronavirus.
I am off to Rosetta too.

I think maybe there could be side effects if that virus was inside your body, or on something expensive or fragile :-)

Do what I did - put Rosetta on high priority and LHC on low (I've got 16 Rosetta, 4 LHC, 1 Universe). That way when they run out (which happens every few days), your computer can help out here.
