Yup, but the vast majority (I'm guessing but I'm willing to wager!) of the other 8,669 are those who did not know there was a choice to be made. :-)

Not blaming LHC for this. It's my favorite project and I understand you (not of course meaning "you" personally, Toby) gotta do what you gotta do. It seems though that overall BOINC stats may be entering a new era, one in which they are extremely incomplete.

I wonder if non-EU based projects will need to comply with this. I'm currently running 45 projects (of which maybe half a dozen may not be active and I should prune). I went through all of them and it appears that only LHC, LHC-dev, Einstein, and WUProp have the GDPR (aggregation site export) option in their preferences.

I find this regulation strange in that it doesn't seem to prevent aggregation sites like BOINCSTATS or anybody else from accessing the data since it's available here for all of us to see. It just makes it harder, especially across a gazillion projects. Anybody who wants the data for some nefarious reason could get it so there's really no privacy issue.

Oh well. Life goes on but BOINC, without good stats, won't be quite what it has been. PITA. Sigh.

Edit: Albert too which figures but it wasn't up earlier.
Also WCG but that one is opt out so it hasn't had a large effect.

I just stumbled upon this new option, while missing 313k Credits. Why was there no boinc message from the lhc team?
I'm not using this forum everyday.

There was and have been sent to your BOINC Manager Notices: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/forum_thread.php?id=4901&postid=37586

No message about having to change anything in the prefs.
Go to the thread, read the first message, nothing in it apart from the server upgrade, so no action taken.

Important things should be posted in a way that makes the users understand if they have to take any action.
Thanks a lot.

... and what percentage of users ever go to the message board or even read the notices in the Manager?

Something like this I think should go out as an email to all registered users. I haven't seen any project do that for this issue yet but other projects have done it from time to time for various reasons.

Just a thought.

"General terms-of-use for this BOINC project. "

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ (From default settings)

What is the function of this checkbox and what are the effects of not putting the X in this box?

When you attach a new host or create a new account you'll have to accept the terms-of-use (TOU).
This is documented at the preferences page.

If you uncheck the box and log out from the webpage you'll have to accept the TOU again at your next login.

I didn't test if my hosts get work while the box is unchecked.

I have had it unchecked until now, and continued to get native ATLAS all along. It is sufficiently vague that I doubt it is enforceable anyway.

I had choosen the box "Do you consent to exporting.…" few days bevor the upgrade. Now I am missing 1,7Mio credits from LHC. I don't know why this went wrong. I hope, the next LHC work units will generate new crredits and then the LHC total will exported to BOINC stats? The LHC credit isn't lost, it is still existing in LHC account, isn't it?

"Before the upgrade" sounds strong to me. Maybe you could check the export consent again.
On BOINCstats I see you have 1,731,247.29 cobblestones on position 69. 786 positions up since last update. https://boincstats.com/en/stats/3/user/detail/159314
Maybe you're in the list after the next BOINCstats import.

I thought the opt out from WCG was a good idea.

I can imagine that the people that don't read forums etc, don't mind that there stats are missing since they don't really even look at BOINC.

Willy said everything will be deleted if you don't take action to agree on the Bstats website.

I agree that some better communication would be handy. Willy PM'ed everyone on BStats.

If GDPR is activated,
all stats are refreshed now (LHC, LHC-dev, Einstein, WCG..).
Is there more to do?
Because every User have a Cross-Project-ID.

Absolutely....

GDPR is about PERSONAL information - not anonymised data, crunched by computers, which are only linked by an email address (which is hidden).

I think someone on this project is a bit over zealous about protecting user data....

In which case, I formally request to the admins of this project to anonymise and delete ALL information relating to any members PCs....as I can see what CPUs a member is using, how much RAM they have, their GPUs config, all sorts of stuff....

IMHO, the EU really are causing absolute mayhem for everyone....and wasting so much money every month MOVING all their offices to Strasbourg to hold 4 days of meetings and then moving it all back to Brussels for the rest of the month.

Dear all, Thanks for your feedback on this. The GDPR features with BOINC are by design such that users have to give their consent to export their data.

As the change is kind of disruptive with respect to past practices for BOINC statistics, keeping export by default may be a better option. I am checking whether we actually can change the default settings for user consent, or if the user step is mandatory with the new code.

I think you are proceeding well. If you look at the extended fight we got into at WCG on the GDPR (maybe still going on, I haven't checked recently), this is resolving itself peacefully.

But I suggest you provide a link to the "General terms-of-use for this BOINC project" that we are being asked to agree to while you are at it. They may be asking us to assign our house and car to CERN. I will leave it unchecked in the meantime.

We are disabling the required consent to export statistics for now, and have raised an issue to include a link to the terms of use on the project preference page in the upstream BOINC code.

EINSTEIN @home AND LHC@home requested the same. Probably I did it only for EINSTEIN@home and were not reading carefully enough to do thid for LHC@home too. But there is something wrong for sure. I am on position 69!!! Two days ago I had been on position 800+. To rise in a such short time is not logical.

@Lorenz It may be logical, because other people haven't agreed to export their data yet , so their accounts are being removed from boincstats.

Is the consent switch completely gone for now, or is there a way I can indicate yes keep it on now as a precaution against your lawyers and/or your courts developing a more severe case of breaking things for the lulz in the future.

We switched if off for now to allow statistics generation to resume for all volunteers like before.

AFAIK the stats files from today and yesterday should be complete.
