Never.... This is Nonsense. I just moved my computers to some other project where time is not wasted. |

the next one: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/result.php?resultid=221764323 are you LHC people doing this to us on purpose ??? |

It's a Social Experiment to see how long it takes for people to complain, and then how much further before they stop complaining and move elsewhere. 😜 Guiri, above, clearly has a much lower threshold than the rest of us. I'm mainly doing -dev work just now for 1/3 of the credits and sometimes no credits at all for work that would have been credited here but my hope is that the work there is helping to refine the next application that will be released here. |

Of course :) This is my next and LAST LHC try of VM tasks. https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/result.php?resultid=221209190 After more than 24 hours of computing, it fails. Come on. This is not serious. |

the next one: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/result.php?resultid=221744502 after almost 14 hours :-((( Can someone from LHC explain the rationale behind submitting all these faulty sherpa tasks? |

the next one: Someone named Peter Skands who claims to be from LHC explained it in this thread on April 3. It appears you're not buying his explanation. Why? Because he's an imposter not really from LHC? Or maybe because he confirms what I said is the rationale, reproducability, which was in turn based on what Massimo explained last year? Or maybe you think Massimo is an impostor too? Fake news all of them? Edit update: OMG! I just got off the phone with Toddler Tyrant (Trump) and he confirms it.... they all graduated from a real university so they're all fake news. Who could have known? |

Given an explanation does not fix the issue. We are wasting our time and money, thats why we would like to participate in a serious project... |

@Bronco: the question is not whether I am buying Peter Skands' explanation or not. In fact: I am buying it. However, as Guiri-One[Andalucia] is saying rightfully: these faulty sherpa tasks are wasting our time and our money. And if reproducability is the rationale for keeping submitting them: by now, there must be tons of such tasks that failed, so how many more do they need? |

I havn't had this problem for 3 weeks now, which I am very glad about :-) So, the question is: were these faulty sherpas finally eliminated, or was it just coincidence that none of my machines got them ? |

You were just lucky. I've got two of these during this week. https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/result.php?resultid=230437559 https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/result.php?resultid=230343751 |

You were just lucky. I've got two of these during this week.So these faulty sherpa tasks are still ready for download? Unbelievable :-( |

You were just lucky.no longer, though. I named the devil, and he showed up right away: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/result.php?resultid=230604402 The task failed after more than 11 hours! I really can't believe that these people don't understand what they are doing to the crunchers. There seems to be quite a stubbornness behind all this :-( |

Erich, you have more than 50k Points per day, be more relax. We all have such Tasks sometime, not only in Theory. Cern-IT do their best to help us. |

maeax, the number of points per day is not my point, so to speak. That's not the background for my complaints. I am just questioning the rationale of submitting tasks of which it is clear that they fail (and, as experience shows, they don't fail right after start; they use to fail after 10 hours, 12 hours, 14 hours, ...) And this is a tremendous waste of CPU power, electricity, etc. - if you figure, in total, how many thousands of hours of CPU time was used - for nothing - so far. Can this really be the target of LHC? In fact, what benefit does LHC have from all these failed tasks (there must be thousands by now)? They could have a lot more benefit from tasks that deliver valid results, right? And if you say "Cern-IT do there best to help us" - this is not quite true. They could help us by simply eliminating these faulty tasks. Not more and not less. |

Believe it, inside IT is a other answer than from a living room outside. |

In short, to hopefully make myself understood: what's the use for LHC to send out thousand of faulty tasks? What exactly is the benefit the science? Could someone logically explain? |

here the next one: https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/result.php?resultid=230730782 it's really annoying that no-one from LHC is willing or able to give an answer the the question what's the use for LHC to send out thousand of faulty tasks? What exactly is the benefit the science? |

here the next one: Sorry to say, but all software here from my professional point of view are made in garage, so speaking. Scientific calculation on Python is not good idea, for example. The tasks are too fragile and fail on any temporary issue - internet down, transient http error, etc. Atlas tasks receive close to half of gigs amount of data(it's ok, raw data) but why it send almost the same amount of data as result? Please don't hesitate to correct me if I'm wrong. |

Thats the reason why I left crunching this project. Too many "errors" in several ways to be considered "serious". Vbox is simply "not working" for a normal user (can't stops & resume jobs with no errors) and we all have seen all kind of faulty tasks, |
