As it occasionally leads to confusion the term "Max # CPUs" on the preferences page may be changed to "Max # CPUs per job". In German: "Maximale Anzahl CPUs pro Aufgabe" |

To be precise, shouldn't it be "Max # CPUs per task" as each CPU (thread) runs one job? With 4 CPUs you have 4 jobs running at the same time (at least on Atlas, I haven't tried other multicore subprojects). |

You are right. That would be more consistent to "tasklist" as well as "taskID" (although this is called "results" in the links). If "tasks" is used then "Max # jobs" should be replaced by "Max # tasks per subproject". |

Agreed, it's very confusing. It needs to be changed in 2 places: the label displayed before the "Edit preferences" link is clicked and the label displayed after the "Edit preferences" link is clicked. Is the preferences page code in use here particular to this project (is it a customized page)? If it's stock code then a Trak ticket needs to be opened. |

It's the stock config from BOINC. I think we discussed this a long time ago the purpose of a job to try and stop people computers being swamped with work, for example if you ran 8, 8core tasks on your computer then it would lockup either from ram usage or cpu usage. So the project can set the defaults to be 1job and 1core then people can dial it up from there. BOINC does a poor job with this as we all think abouts tasks as this is what the UI shows in client. When the project submits the work it's called a job hence the naming. Also for ATLAS, unlimited jobs/tasks is not actually unlimited jobs/tasks, so even more confusing. |

I have a Windows 10 PC whose CPU is AMD A10-6700, sold as a four core CPU. But the Windows 10 Task Manager says it has two cores and 4 logical processors so it runs only two one core tasks or one two core task such as Atlas. same as the Opteron 1210 of my main Linux box, which has really only two cores. It runs GPUGRID two core tasks.
