Hi team, I have some solar power at home which I can't simply use / store during southern spanish summer. Thus, I was thinking about using some of that power to crunch some lhc. Do you have any clue whether is possible to use internet router for this purpose? I have couple of them, with openwrt and ddwwrt (telnet and ssh access), both unix based. I algo got some android phones but they are extremely old :( They are not powerfull but they could crunch for 12 hours a day...for "free" :) Thx in advance. KR, Javi |

Start by taking a look at LHC's list of applications at https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/apps.php. There you will see they have a few versions of the Sixtrack beta-test app that run on Android. One of those might work on your phone. Regarding your router with Unix, there are Sixtrack beta-test apps for Linux, FreeBSD and OpenBSD. Maybe one of those would work? The other apps (ATLAS, Test4Theory, LHCb and CMS) all require VirtualBox plus lots of RAM. I highly doubt those will run on your old Android phones. |

If you can get me some info on the system/processor, then sure, I could build a sixtrack version for them. |

I would firts try to fix lack of memory is such devices (via mounting a usb drive as additional "hard drive") and come back if lucky). BTW: It would be nice to "choose" which kind of tasks the user prefers: I dont see a non powrfull device crunching an "LHC_2015...) task on time. It takes hours and hours in a good lapop..:) |

It takes hours and hours in a good lapop..:) You can choose. Click your username on the righthand side of the screen then click the "LHC@home preferences" link. Lots of settings there to play with :) Click "edit preferences", disable everything except Sixtrack, click Save. |

Different names but same application. Yes, some require several hours, some require much less. Unfortunately there is no easy way to choose between them. If your device cannot crunch the long ones then it is not suitable for the job. |
