When will I learn?

Once again just like VB we have Boinc asking for another update in the same damn month.

And as usual I suspend the running tasks and then d/l and install the new Boinc version and even do a reboot and WTF do I get?

Well the one 2-core task at 93% ran for a few minutes as the VB reloaded and when it got to the *credential* part it started stuttering away and then crashed so I had to abort it to even get a new one to start running and the same with another task just like it at 43%

And then I wanted to d/l just ONE LHCb since I can run one along with the 4X2 Theory tasks BUT you have to set it at *no limit* so that means before I can tell it to stop giving me new LHCb's I get 20 of those and they get to stop all but one Theory multi-core task and when this happens I can only run 6 LHCb's and one Theory X2.

That is because the due dates on these LHCb's are 1 week and Theory at 1 month

Later I will try to get back to running four X2 and a single LHCb.......but pretty much a waste of time just to run 9 tasks on these 8-core hosts thanks to that short due date.........if they were a month too then I would still get them done in less than a week.

And windows 10 isn't as easy to go and edit the program like it was with 7......rather not do that 3 times for just running an extra LHCb each day

AND I have another 8-core that needs a Boinc Update BUT if the running tasks are higher than 25%....no %$#@ing way will I waste another 30+ hours of work.

Ever have a laptop that lasted 7 years?

My 8-core with a SSD and a Geforce video card and 8GB ram was running perfect with LHC Theory and LHC-dev CMS and even a few SixTracks added for the hell of it.

And at the same time have several pages loaded and then I X-out and check the Boinc manager and see if they want any work so I don't have to check later and then for some ____ reason checked fakebook and seconds later the screen starts flashing and turning blank black or blue (no not the BSD)

This is the only laptop I have ever taken apart and even did MB repairs and replaced parts and several batteries over the years but the CPU and GPU keep on running.......BUT I have reinstalled 7 and 10 several times over the years and THIS time noting works BUT tests say everything does work.

Not so funny thing is no programs or anything have been changed......same old thing.....Boinc for LHC and check the emails and the sports scores and an occasional youtube video.........only thing that worked is running it in the Safe Mode and I reinstalled Boinc and Chrome and I will now just run Sixtracks for the rest of its laptop life........and 7 years running 24/7 doing actual work is not something you will find many laptops EVER doing so now that it is starting year 8 here I will see how much longer this ASUS will run.

ok break time.....these 10 pc's can give a person a ucking headache

I looked up computezrmle in a German dictionary and it said "jackass" or "Eselin" or "Dummkopf"

I guess I should have looked that up before

It finally had to be retired since the jack where you plug in that ac/dc cord finally died.....or the circuit .....replace that jack several times since ASUS made it all great EXCEPT that tiny connection.

The laptop was never unplugged so it never needed the battery.......well except they aren't smart enough to make a laptop run without depending on the battery and the circuit it uses and that insane jack where the battery plugs in..........so I gave up and removed the SSD and plugged it into one of my older desktops and that sure works good.

Since then I got another Ryzen laptop that turned out to be just a quad-core and no extra threads and pitiful ram and the battery is not one that you just unplug if you ever need to replace it.

Since it still is running but pisses me off I got a new laptop with Ryzen 16 thread 16GB ram and that thing is GREAT.......runs the Einstein GPU's twice as fast as my desktop with the 660Ti SC (that is old now but when I got it new it was a big deal but it is still running 24/7 on its 8th year)
