LHC@home's Theory application today passed the milestone of 4 TRILLION simulated events. This project, under its earlier name "Test4Theory", began production in 2011 and was the first BOINC project to use Virtual Machine technology (based on CERN's CernVM system).

We will be publishing some more details for you on the LHC@home and CERN websites over the coming days. Here is a first release:

Many thanks to all our volunteers for enabling this achievement !

Great! (But isn't Einstein@home getting a bit too much effort...(:-))...?)...

Thanks a lot from Ben and the team.

My Einstein@home RAC is around 25000, while all other project RAC rarely goes beyond 2000. This because Einstein@home overpays GPU tasks.

That is all GPU over at Einstein and all the CPU's are for Cern.

GPUs do more work.

And 20 times faster or better.

All my Test4Theory machines are still up and running right now.

That depends to some extent on the GPU: https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=7354060

GPUs are used to mine Bitcoins. People at SETI@home complain about their rising costs.

Yes I am only talking about GPU at the Einstein project and I retired from seti a couple minutes after Boinc started.
BUT I have been running GPU cards over at Einstein for years and have went from Geforce 550Ti to GeForce 660Ti's and the ones between that and they easily have been 20 times faster than just my CPU's

I ran all 9 of mine for a few years but when we started T4T and the new Einstein GPU started that has to also use a CPU I just switched all of mine to T4T and the other Cern testing and just run my 660Ti SC for Einstein and still use 2 cores on that one for LHC tasks 24/7 and it doesn't slow down my GPU runs at all.

I try to always bite my keyboard-tongue when it comes to seti .......other than to say that I know that the LHC and all those detectors are actually doing something.

So since the beginning in 2004 I have been here and all the other alpha and beta testing (finishing up the current batch of alpha-Atlas right now( but the betas are still running on our -dev super computers.

(wth am I doing up at 3am)

The Piz Daint cluster at Lugano has gained third position in the Top500 list due to its heavy use of GPUs. I won't say the maker of those GPU boards to avoid making any advertisement.

This article about the 4th trillion makes fun to read about the past and to see the 5th trillion in the next future.
Thank you so much Cern.

I have read the article "Time to adapt for big data" in the April issue of CERN Courier. Data processing seems to be the next major hurdle for physics and astronomy. I noticed the intent to use GPUs, like Einstein@home and SETI@home are doing in their BOINC projects.
