Chooka,

you can help also with (Theory, CMS,LHCb and ATLAS).
Therefore you need to install Virtualbox and set AMD-V or VT-X enabled in BIOS.
First help how to use is Yeti's Checklist in ATLAS message folder.

Hi maeax,

Yeah I'm aware of using the virtual box but I've chosen not to use it. Probably more so due to a lack of understanding what it would mean using a virtual box.
I'm happy to just crunch 6 track work.....when you can get it.

a post which was posted earlier in this thread explains why sixtrack work comes in "waves"

Dear all,

thanks a lot for your requests! As I already mentioned in another thread:
https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/forum_thread.php?id=3997#27782
dynamic aperture studies are slightly different from data analysis of experiments. In a SixTrack job, we don't scan measurements to find new particle physics, but we investigate configurations of high energy accelerators (needed to have the collisions that produce data for the experiments) in order to push performance. Hence, it can happen that work comes in "waves", depending on how the optimisation process evolves.

Thanks for your understanding!

This is the best I ever remember SixTrack running.

I just have one of my 8-cores that only runs these and it has been non-stop tasks and all running perfect.

Over 300 tasks so far Valid (146) ยท Validation pending (126)- Error (0)

And I keep getting new ones.

Hope all the rest are running now too (273,195 In progress)

I have 30 tasks validated and pending, all 32-bit on a Linux host. Thei wingmate is 64-bit, validated and pending.

There are new SixTrack workunits being created.

At the moment they are faster distributed to the BOINC clients as they can be created, so you probably will not get tasks on first request.

Cheers

Sixtrack work has always been sporadic. There have been a few staff changes but also a few batches of work recently. Frederik gives some detail of the changes and future plans in this post

Thanks. Yes, I know as I have been crunching here ... forever. The operative word in my post was "soon". Guess Frederik is in Winter hibernation. :)

Cheers

72,000 Sixtracks in progress today, so I'm guessing 100,000 released. And I didn't get any :-( Just my luck.

Just keep Boinc asking for work, you'll eventually get some. I think they are putting more out as right now there are about 900 unsent tasks.

Yeh, I always leave the door open for Sixtracks as they were one of my first Boinc tasks (a day after yourself, Harri :-) ) but I long ago accepted that it's just luck whether I get any.

The new kind of work (WSD_hl14_) seems to be very short...

Yep, a lot of ten second tasks and even the longer ones take only half an hour.
