I have just over half my LHC tasks with computation failures. Is this ok or should I fix something? I installed the VC++ redist as requested on the homepage, and I've updated to the latest Virtualbox.

Do you have Virtualisation enabled in the BIOS? Did you install the VirtualBox extensions. Your tasks aren't starting properly, and time out after ten minutes.

I thought I'd enabled that when I set the machines up, but it was off on 1 of my 4 machines. I've switched on "Intel Virtualisation Technology", I assume that's what's required.

I didn't realise there was such a thing as extensions, it wasn't mentioned on the home page. I've now installed them.

I'll keep an eye on things and make sure the tasks complete properly. Thanks for your help.

Didn't spot them when I downloaded it years ago. I assumed they'd just all come in one file. I see no reason why they shouldn't.

Anyway when I updated it before re-joining LHC, I just used the autoupdate function (I think - I was a bit stoned at the time, so I can't remember).

What do you mean the message boards are goofy?

They're released under different licences. VBox proper is the GPLv2 which is open source and redistributable, whilst the extension pack is this one;... which isn't.

Since they're both free, why not ship them together?

Perhaps one reason is that VirtualBox itself is system-dependent while the extension is system-agnostic -- one size fits all -- so it's less hassle than having to bundle them together for every variation.
