Great thing :-) what I am reading there is "...Linac 4 will be connected to CERN’s accelerator complex during the upcoming long technical shut down in 2019-20 ..." does this mean that there will be no LHC projects for us crunchers during this shut-down period? |

Great thing :-) No. Most (if not all) of what the projects send to volunteers is theory or simulation -- many peoples' bandwidth couldn't cope with the amount of data if we sent processing jobs, plus that data is confidential until results are released in refereed papers. The need for simulations never decreases, especially in the shut-downs or the lead-up to them when various configuration options are being explored (try a Web search for something like "CMS tracker tilted geometry" to see what sort of options we explore). |
