So far, on one of my PCs, within the ATLAS Project I had run 1 multicore task by a certain app_config.xml.

Since no more tasks are being fed to the ATLAS Project Server, I got the advice to change to LHC@home.
I adapted the app_config.xml according to the samples and suggestions I found here in the ATLAS section of the LHC@home message board.
Regardless of what app_config.xml I use, the BOINC Manager always brings the notice "LHC@home | Your app_config.xml file refers to an unknown application 'ATLAS'. Known applications: 'sixtrack'.

So, as it seems, I am not able to run ATLAS Tasks within the LHC@home Project.
Why so?

Hi , Erich ,

you can run atlas tasks without using app_config.xml in a first time.
you can divide the different profiles of your 3 hosts by using the 3 profiles :home,work,school located in your preference account.
In this place, you can set according to your computer, the number of jobs and the number of cores you want to group to execute work units.
you have to know that single core doesn't exist anymore in lhc, they have been replaced by 1 core multicore which needs 2600 MBytes RAM.(It's slightly higher than the 2241 MBytes of the previous atlas single core).
For 2-->4 multi cores wu , 4400 MBytes RAM are necessary to finish correctly.
The app_config will be useful for this case.
I can't give you more precision , i have not created it yet because of my low configuration hardware.

The error is because you never ran an atlas task on this project so it's unknown to boinc once you have started download of a task then it's known to boinc and error goes away.

In case it helps, here is an example to run 4 concurrent 2-core ATLAS application tasks in LHC@Home, each being assigned 4400 MB:
<app_config>
<app>
<name>ATLAS</name>
<max_concurrent>4</max_concurrent>
</app>
<app_version>
<app_name>ATLAS</app_name>
<avg_ncpus>2.000000</avg_ncpus>
<plan_class>vbox64_mt_mcore_atlas</plan_class>
<cmdline>--memory_size_mb 4400</cmdline>
</app_version>
</app_config>
We are the product of random evolution.
