I stumbled across mention of the CERN 60 and after some time the challenge page finally loaded up.

I was curious what the results of the challenge were but I can't tell if the information on that page was available as the site doesn't seem to be loading very well...

Additionally, I see that the challenge was run using different software than the BOINC systems. What was the reasoning for that? I realize that you have different projects running in their own little universes, but couldn't the data still been applied?

Finally, will CERN have another such challenge this year possibly using the new combined LHC project instead of a separate system?

Thanks for the question about the CERN Public Computing Challenges (there have been two so far). We don't have plans for the next one at the moment as we lost our star developer Ioannis who built most of the WebAPI software we used for them. By using an all Web interface, instrumented with Google Analytics, we were able to study what motivates people to do volunteer computing - in this case to run physics jobs for CERN. There are important and complicated issues involved, and most of them apply also to the BOINC community.

We are continuing to look at this area in several studies in collaboration with colleagues from the Citizen Cyberlab project at the University of Geneva.

Do you know of anyplace I can read about the results? I'm most curious to see how the events turned out.

Thanks.

Here is a link to a paper published last year in Human Computation (2016) 3:1:99-117, containing details of the research and methods developed to analyse the results of our Computing Challenges:

https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Oula_Abu-Amsha2/publication/312962080_CCLTracker_Framework_Monitoring_user_learning_and_activity_in_web_based_citizen_science_projects/links/588edfc392851cef1362d699/CCLTracker-Framework-Monitoring-user-learning-and-activity-in-web-based-citizen-science-projects.pdf

As you can see, a lot of effort is being made to understand how our volunteers behave, where they come from and what are the problems they encounter.

Best wishes,

Ben and Challenge team

Glad I never did that and over all my years here it seemed like it was similar just doing the thousands of tasks and thousands of hours and all that was involved while I have been doing this.......either actual high energy physics testing tasks.......or I just can't think of anything else to do these days
